SEC Baseball Week 7 Power Rankings: Auburn shocks the conference with series win at South Carolina

The Auburn Tigers shocked the conference and the country as they took a trip to Columbia, South Carolina, and took two out of three games from the No. 2 Gamecocks. Can they beat the No. 2 and No. 1 team in back-to-back weeks as they host LSU?

Speaking of the No. 1 team, the Tigers swept the Alabama Crimson Tide in Baton Rouge in three close games as the Tigers’ pitching injuries pile up. Ole Miss also won its first conference series of the season as it took down the Georgia Bulldogs.

The best conference series this weekend will likely be Florida traveling to take on Texas A&M in College Station.

Without further ado, here’s how things stack up in our power rankings this week.

Ole Miss — 24-21 (5-16 SEC)

Ole Miss won its first conference series of the year after taking two of three games from the Georgia Bulldogs. The Rebels start a series on the road against Missouri on Thursday night.

Mississippi State — 24-20 (6-15 SEC)

The Bulldogs had a rough weekend on the road in Knoxville as the Vols swept them in their three-game series. They welcome the Arkansas Razorbacks into town this weekend.

Missouri — 25-19 (5-16 SEC)

Missouri hung around with the Florida Gators last weekend but were eventually swept. The Tigers had a good midweek win against Kansas, and they will look to build off of that momentum when they play Ole Miss this weekend.

Georgia — 25-20 (8-13 SEC)

Just when you thought that maybe Georgia was turning the corner and getting better, the Bulldogs drop a series to the worst team in the SEC. Their schedule doesn’t get any easier as they welcome Tennessee in this weekend.

Alabama — 30-15 (9-12 SEC)

‘Bama has a 30-15 record, why is it ranked this low? See the above tweet. After a probe into “suspicious betting activity” for Game 1 of the LSU-Alabama series, the Tide were swept by the Tigers in Baton Rouge and have now lost their head coach.

Texas A&M — 26-19 (9-12 SEC)

The Aggies had a rough weekend in Fayetteville, Arkansas, as they were swept by the Hogs. They snuck by Tarleton in their midweek game and now they will face a very talented Florida Gators team.

Auburn — 25-18-1 (9-12 SEC)

Auburn shocked the nation last weekend when it took two out of three games from the No. 2 South Carolina Gamecocks in Columbia. The biggest question now is, can they beat No. 2 and No. 1 in back-to-back weekends?

Tennessee — 31-14 (11-10)

Tennessee is getting hot as the season goes on. The Volunteers swept Mississippi State last weekend, and they travel to Athens to take on Georgia this weekend. There is a good shot that they can sweep the ‘Dogs, too.

Kentucky — 30-13 (11-10 SEC)

Kentucky has been on a downward spiral ever since it lost to Georgia. The Wildcats have lost four straight SEC series and they will take on one of the best teams in the conference, South Carolina, this weekend.

Arkansas — 33-12 (14-7 SEC)

The Hogs were on a slide before they swept the Texas A&M Aggies last weekend. Unfortunately, that didn’t carry over into their midweek game against Lipscomb as they lost that game 8-6. The Razorbacks travel to Starkville to take on Mississippi State this weekend.

South Carolina — 36-8 (14-6 SEC)

The Gamecocks were shocked by the Auburn Tigers last weekend as one of the best home venues in the country couldn’t help Carolina overcome the Tigers. The Gamecocks will play Kentucky in a good matchup this weekend.

Vanderbilt — 33-11 (16-5 SEC)

The Vandy Boys rebounded last week after going 0-4 the week before. They swept Kentucky and won their midweek game, as well. They start their series on the road against Alabama on Thursday.

Florida — 36-10 (14-7 SEC)

After being swept by South Carolina, Florida has won five games in a row. The Gators will look to continue that streak against a Texas A&M team that is struggling at the moment.

LSU — 36-8 (15-5 SEC)

The No. 1 team in the country is hitting the road to take on the Auburn Tigers who are fresh off of taking a series on the road against the No. 2 South Carolina Gamecocks.
