SEC Baseball Power Rankings: A new No. 1 has emerged

The SEC baseball season is down to its final week and teams are working to get into shape for the SEC Tournament and beyond.

One of those teams is the Arkansas Razorbacks who have surpassed the LSU Tigers as the top team in the rankings. While that is related to LSU dropping back-to-back series, the Razorbacks are playing great baseball and look poised to make a deep run.

The Razorbacks weren’t the only team to jump the Tigers though, the Florida Gators also did after an impressive sweep of the Vanderbilt Commodores.

Here’s how the teams stack up in our power rankings after the weekend’s action.

The Wildcats have struggled with consistency all season and that continued this weekend as they lost their series to Tennessee a week after sweeping South Carolina.

Tennessee Volunteers (35-17, 14-13)

Tennessee continues to be a dominant team at home but struggled on the road, this weekend they beat Kentucky to improve to 32-5 at home on the season. They will have a chance to flip that narrative this weekend when they face South Carolina in Columbia.

Alabama Crimson Tide (35-17, 13-14)

The Crimson Tide dropped game one against Texas A&M but won the final two games by a combined score of 23-1 and continue to play great baseball since they fired their head coach for his reported connection to gambling.

Auburn Tigers (30-19-1, 14-13)

The Tigers continue to be one of the hottest teams in the second half of league play after their dominant sweep over Ole Miss. The Tigers have now four straight series and will have a chance to make some noise in the SEC Tournament.

South Carolina (37-14, 15-11)

South Carolina is in a rut at the worst time, they dropped their midweek game against North Florida and lost their series to Arkansas. They have now lost three straight series.

Vanderbilt Commodores (35-16, 17-10)

The Commodores were swept by Florida and it wasn’t particularly close as they were outscored 22-4 in the three games. They will have a chance to rebound with a series against Arkansas to end the regular season.

LSU Tigers (39-12, 17-9)

The LSU Tigers have now lost back-to-back series and are no longer the No. 1 team in these rankings. Their loss against Mississippi State was shocking but they have been great over the season and will have a chance to get back on track this weekend when they take on Georgia.

Florida Gators (40-12, 18-9)

Florida responded from its loss to Texas A&M by sweeping the Vanderbilt Commodores and look like one of the most dangerous teams in the country.

Arkansas Razorbacks (38-13, 19-8)

The Razorbacks are heating up when it matters most and after their win over South Carolina, they have won three straight series. They will have a chance to make another statement this weekend when they head to Nashville to take on Vanderbilt.
