The season just started, but these Bucks County area student-athletes make early statement

The fall season just started, but these student-athletes haven't missed a step in their return to area soccer and field hockey fields. Check out some of the top performances from the fall season's opening week of what promises to be another exciting year.

Coaching Milestones

Neshaminy field hockey coach Jamie Pinto earned her 100th career victory in Wednesday’s 6-0 win against Pennsbury. Pinto is a Neshaminy grad, and was the Courier Times Field Hockey Player of the Year in 2003 and 2004. She began her tenure as head coach in 2016, after spending the previous two years as an assistant.

Girls Soccer

Mattie Williams, Lansdale Catholic: The freshman began her high school career by scoring the Crusaders’ lone goal against Perkiomen Valley.

Ella Koschineg, Gwynedd Mercy: The senior captain and Cornell commit, well-known for her defense, led the offense with two goals and one assist in a 5-1 victory over Germantown Academy.

Maddie Egan, Abington: After a slow start to the season, Egan put the Ghosts in the win column, scoring the lone goal of the game in a 1-0 win against Hatboro-Horsham.

Josey Smith, Pennsbury: Smith produced a pair of goals against Truman, giving the Falcons their first victory of the season, and the first win for new head coach Jenna Peters.

Theresa Ditri, William Tennent: The senior defender helped lead a staunch Panthers’ defense to three straight shutouts to open the season.

Kate Weyer, CB West: The senior Virginia Commonwealth commit tallied both of the Bucks’ goals in a 2-0 win against North Penn.

Tori Angelo, Pennridge: Angelo erupted to score four goals for the Rams in a victory over Souderton.

Alyssa Tooley, Hatboro-Horsham: Tooley had 13 saves in goal, keeping the injury-depleted Hatters in the game against CB East, though they didn’t end up winning.

Riley Karpinski, CB South: Karpinski accounted for the lone goal of the game to give the Titans a 1-0 win against rival CB East.

Emma Ziskowski, Faith Christian: The sophomore scored a goal in each of the Lions’ first two games – both wins – to open the season.

Boys Soccer

Brady Hartman, Abington: With under two minutes remaining in double overtime, Hartman drilled the game-winning goal to give the Ghosts a 1-0 win over Hatboro-Horsham.

Carter Tull, Quakertown: Tull’s second goal of the game occurred in overtime, giving the Panthers a 5-4 victory over Plymouth Whitemarsh.

CJ Massella, La Salle: Massella scored the game-winning goal with under four minutes to go to give the Explorers a 4-3 win against Holy Ghost.

Drew Kerns, Souderton: Kerns gave the Big Red their first win of the season in thrilling fashion when he converted a penalty kick in overtime against Pennridge.

Dylan Gable, Faith Christian: Gable connected on two penalty kicks to give the Pioneers a 3-1 victory over neighboring rival Calvary Christian.

Tommy Ellis, Lansdale Catholic: Ellis connected on a penalty kick late in the game as the Crusaders’ rebounded from a 1-0 deficit for the 2-1 win against Westtown in Ocean City.

Field Hockey

Kaeli VanDerSluis, CB South: With just seconds remaining in overtime, VanDerSluis turned a pass from Sam Thomas into the game-winning goal. VanDerSluis tallied both goals for the Titans in the 2-1 victory over Souderton.

Paige Longacre, Quakertown: The freshman had an impressive performance in her first high school game, scoring two goals in the Panthers’ 4-0 win over Upper Dublin.

Madison Afanador, Dock Mennonite: The goalie recorded five saves in net to earn the shutout in the Pioneers’ 3-0 win over Delco Christian.

Olivia Meakim, Upper Moreland: Meakim registered three goals to give the Golden Bears the victory in their season opener against Truman.

Ava Cozza, New Hope-Solebury: Cozza opened the season with a four-goal game to give the Lions’ a win in their first game of the season against Cheltenham. On Saturday, she scored four goals in a victory over Truman.

Girls Volleyball

Molly Milewski, Conwell-Egan: The senior recorded her 1,000th career assist on Tuesday, as the Eagles swept Bensalem 3-0. Milewski dished out 22 assists in the win, along with two digs and one ace.

McKenna Murawski, Souderton: Murawski was relentless in front of the net, tallying 18 kills, 17 digs and seven aces in a 3-2 victory over CR North. In a 3-1 win against North Penn, she recorded 12 kills, 11 digs and five aces.

Jocelyn Fang, Pennsbury: The senior outside hitter posted 11 digs and 10 kills in 3-0 win against William Tennent, and she followed that with 14 kills in a sweep of CB South.
