Sean McVay leaves no doubt about Rams’ commitment to Matthew Stafford in 2024
One of the hottest topics surrounding the Los Angeles Rams last year was the future of Matthew Stafford. He has a huge contract and endured an injury-plagued 2022 season, causing many to wonder if the Rams might part ways with their starting quarterback.
There were rumors about their attempts to trade him, and while they never adjusted his contract, Stafford confirmed the team approached him about restructuring his deal to help them out financially.
Following a terrific 2023 season, there are no more concerns about Stafford’s status as the Rams’ top quarterback moving forward. No trade rumors, no contract talk and no retirement worries after Stafford said on Sunday that he plans to be back in 2024.
McVay made it clear once again on Wednesday that Stafford is their guy moving forward.
“A hundred percent, absolutely. Unequivocally, yes. Yes, I totally understand (the question). But, oh man, that would be a good way to get me really riled up. No, we’re ready to go. He’s ready to go and couldn’t be more committed to having him lead us next year.”
Stafford threw 24 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions in 15 games this season, accumulating 3,965 yards after only throwing for 2,087 in nine games in 2022.
His best performance of the season came in the Rams’ playoff loss to the Lions, racking up 367 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. Even though he’ll be 36 in February, he’s shown no signs of slowing down, displaying the ability to make all the throws necessary as a starting quarterback.
With a more experienced roster and plenty of offseason assets, the Rams will once again be Super Bowl contenders in 2024 with Stafford leading the charge.
