Seahawks finish preseason with win in Oakland
The best thing about this game is that it finally came to an end. The Seahawks trailed the Raiders 3-5 going into the fourth quarter, which doesn’t even begin to explain how boring it was to watch up until that point.
As so often happens in Seahawks games though, things got interesting in the fourth quarter. An early interception got Seattle in the end-zone and turned the game around, leading to a narrow 23-21 win.
Here is our official game recap.
Seahawks vs. Raiders: Preseason Week 4 Recap
The Story:
All things considered, nobody cares who wins the final preseason game. The main headline from this game may have come before kickoff, when Jeremy Lane sat out the national anthem in support of Colin Kaepernick’s protest. Say what you want about Lane, but he has first amendment rights and deserves credit for taking a stand that’s certain to bring a lot of heat on him.
MVP: Troymaine Pope
If anybody is a sentimental favorite to make the final Seahawks roster this year, it has to be undrafted free agent running back Troymaine Pope. He’s got some tough competition with Thomas Rawls and Christine Michael ahead of him. However, his play the last few weeks has been phenomenal. Tonight against Oakland he finished with 52 yards, and one touchdown on eight carries, avering (6.5 YPC). He also added 107 yards on three kick returns.
Linebacker Kache Palacio also played a hell of a game, forcing a fumble and finishing second on the team with seven combined tackles.
LVP: Tharold Simon
Unfortunately, it was more of the same for Simon. He was consistently beat in coverage against third-string wide receivers yet again. Worst of all, Simon committed a bad pass interference penalty in the end-zone late in the game that led to an easy Raiders touchdown. If he makes the roster, it will be more of a statement about how thin Seattle is at cornerback than about his mythical upside.
Trevone Boykin was not sharp at quarterback, either. He completed just seven of 15 passes and was sacked twice. Boykin averaged only 4.8 yards per pass attempt and had a 61.0 passer rating. The rookie proved that still has a lot of room to grow.
Injuries:
Defensive tackle Jordan Hill continues to have bad luck. Danny O’Neil reports that he may have aggravated his hamstring injury in the game. Also, cornerback De’Andre Elliot was carted off at one point, per Gregg Bell.

Tweet of the game:
There has to be some kind of Pope-theme nickname that we can come up with for Pope if he makes the team, right?

It’s not every day that you see a defensive end sniff out a screen, pick it off and run it back for six points. Kudos to former Raider Ryan Robinson:
