Seahawks at Cardinals: Week 7 preview and prediction
After a much-needed bye week, the Seattle Seahawks aren’t just back in action, they’re back in prime time. For the second straight game (and two Sunday’s out of the last three) the Seahawks will be getting the “Sunday Night Football” treatment as they play the Arizona Cardinals on the road.
This will be the first time since 2016 the Seahawks have played the Cardinals on Sunday night, and that game resulted in the only tie in Seahawks’ history as it turned out to be an ugly 6-6 snoozefest.
When it comes to wins, the Seahawks have had great success in the Valley of the Sun. Other than the aforementioned tie, and Week 1 of the 2012 season – Russell Wilson’s NFL debut – Seattle has won every other game at State Farm Stadium. In the victories dating back to 2013, the Seahawks are averaging 29 points per game and enjoy an average margin of victory of 16.1 points. Last year, Seattle took care of business once more with a 27-10 win.
However, despite the wins, Glendale, AZ has become cursed ground for the Seahawks as they have suffered tremendous losses. It is the site of Seattle’s infamous defeat in Super Bowl XLIX. It is also the graveyard of the Legion of Boom.
Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, and Earl Thomas all suffered season-ending injuries in Arizona. Sherman and Chancellor in 2017, and Thomas in 2018. All proved to be the final games as Seahawks for all three, as Chancellor was forced into retirement, whereas Sherman and Thomas joined other teams following the offseasons.
Now the Seahawks return to face a surging Cardinals squad who, at 4-2, is the best team Seattle has faced yet this year. Can the Seahawks hold on for another road win in the desert?
Prediction: Seahawks over Cardinals 27-22
Every game the Seahawks play is weird, and they’re often weirder when they play the Cardinals. So why not pick a slightly unusual score?
Arizona is improved all across the board this year, specifically in the secondary which gave receiver DK Metcalf difficulties last season.
Seattle is off a week’s rest, and is looking healthier. However, safety Jamal Adams is still out with a groin injury. Expect another hard-fought battle between these two teams which will likely come down to the wire. Because all Seahawks games these days do, especially on “Sunday Night Football.”
