Scottie Scheffler Masters history: Best finishes at Augusta National, career majors, wins

Even before the first group of the 2024 Masters teed off Thursday, Scottie Scheffler stood out among the 89-man field.

Though the possibility has loomed throughout the tournament that he would have to abruptly leave Augusta National Golf Club to be with his wife should she go into labor, Scheffler, the No. 1-ranked player in the world, entered the event as the betting favorite.

Those projections turned out to have merit. Scheffler was at or near the top of the leaderboard for much of the event, then pulled away over the final 10 holes to allow him to put on a green jacket for a second time in his career.

Between its history, lore and sheer beauty, the Masters has a way of elevating even some of the game’s most established names. While what Scheffler has done over the past several days at Augusta National is impressive, it’s not exactly unprecedented — both on that course and at that tournament.

Has Scottie Scheffler won the Masters?

As memorable as the first-place finish by four shots at the 2024 Masters has been for Scheffler, he also won the 2022 Masters by a decent margin. His score of 10 under put him three strokes ahead of the next-closest competitor, Rory McIlroy.

Led by his victory in 2022, here are Scheffler’s best previous finishes at the Masters, an event in which he first competed in 2020:

  • 2023: Tied for 10th

Though he owns the world No. 1 ranking, the 27-year-old Scheffler had won only one major tournament, the aforementioned 2022 Masters.

Scottie Scheffler wins

While a second major has been elusive at this relatively early point in Scheffler’s career, he has racked up victories elsewhere.

Scheffler has won eight PGA Tour events over the course of his professional career, going back to February 2022. Should he hold on Sunday, it would be the third tournament in the past five weeks in which he earned a first-place finish.
