Scores, schedules live updates from New York's high school football semifinals Nov. 24-25

CICERO - High school football heads outdoors in New York for the final time this season with state semifinals being played on high school fields at Cicero-North Syracuse and Middletown Friday and Saturday.

Locally, Whitesboro heads to Cicero for the western Class A semifinal Friday as one of the last two active Section III schools. Christian Brothers Academy of Syracuse, the section's last state champion in Class A two years ago, plays in the Class AA semifinal Saturday in Cicero.

Fonda-Fultonville, the Class C champion from Section II and a short drive across the sectional line into Montgomery County, heads east to Middletown for a Saturday afternoon game.

Whitesboro and Rochester East/World of Inquiry from Section V are scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. Friday in the last of three games at Michael J. Bragman Stadium. The contestants have been ranked back-to-back by the New York State Sportswriters Association since its second poll of the season Sept. 20; Rochester East/World of Inquiry is currently No. 4 and Whitesboro No. 5. (Garden City, a Section VIII team on Long Island which does not participate in the NYSPHSAA tournament, is the co-No. 1 with an eastern semifinalist.)

Temperatures for the day should be bottoming out at 31 degrees just as the Warriors and Eagles kick off and may offer a slight rebound during the game with about a 30% chance of precipitation.

While the western finalist is determined in greater Syracuse, the other Class A semifinal in Middletown features Section I Somers, the reigning champion, and Section II Niskayuna.

Section V Pembroke and Section IV will contest the final game of the four-section eight player season in the noon game Friday in Cicero, and two-time defending Class D champion Tioga from Section IV squares off with Section VI Clymer/Sherman/Panama at 3 p.m.

Saturday's schedule in Cicero starts with the Class C game between Section IV Waverly and Section VI Salamanca. The Class B game between Section V Monroe and Section IV Maine-Endwell, the reigning state champion from Section IV, follows, and the Class AA game between Christian Brothers Academy and Section VI Buffalo-Bennett wraps up the weekend.

The forecast for Middletown in the Hudson Valley has Fonda-Fultonville and Section IX O'Neill from Highland Falls, the reigning state champion, kicking off at about 37 degrees at noon Saturday with temperatures rising into the low 40s and no threat of rain under sunny skies.

The other Class C finalist will be the winner of the game in Cicero between .

The holiday weekend winners head to Syracuse next weekend for championship games at the university's JMA Wireless Dome.
