SATURDAY, 4/30

Softball

LOUDONVILLE 16, PLYMOUTH 0 Goldie Layton and Brook Christine both had three hits and three RBIs as Loudonville rolled to a five-inning nonleague win over Plymouth. Karena Burgess (four runs scored), Payton VanSickle and Natalee Buzzard all added two hits and knocked in two runs. Buzzard struck out four in three innings to earn a win in the circle.

NORTHWESTERN 9, ELYRIA CATHOLIC 6 Marina Aulger slashed four hits, including a solo home run, and scored for runs to lead Northwestern to a nonleague win over Elyria Catholic. Avery Garver added three hits, while Laurissa Fulton had two hits. Audrey Franks chipped in two RBIs, and Olivia Amstutz went the distance with nine strikeouts to earn a win in the circle.

NORTHWESTERN 5, MEDINA 4 Northwestern scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Medina in a nonconference clash. Daylie Rickard and Kara Burgan both had two hits to pace the Huskies, while Aulger had two RBIs. Amstutz earned a win in relief, striking out three in 3⅓ innings.

BLACK RIVER 8-8, MAPLETON 2-7 Black River picked up two nonconference wins over Mapleton. Carly Eckert led the Pirates with five hits and three RBIs, while Jordan Bradford and Lilly Stief (three runs scored) both had four hits. Abbie Graves chipped in three hits and scored five runs, while Mallory Eckert (two RBIs) and Sarah Racut (three RBIs) both had two hits. Bradford went the distance with four strikeouts to earn a win in the first game, and she struck out four in 4⅓ innings of relief to earn a win in the second game. Heidi Earl had four hits and three RBIs to lead the Mounties, while Caitlyn Vermilya chipped in three hits.

NORTHMOR 8-6, SOUTH CENTRAL 5-9 South Central split a nonleague doubleheader with Northmor. Hannah Ayers led the Trojans with five hits, and she also struck out nine to earn a win in the circle in the second game. Kaylee Richards and Makena Calame both chipped in three hits and three RBIs, while Kyrstin Hamons added three hits.

Baseball

NORTHWESTERN 13-11, LOUDONVILLE 2-3 Northwestern cruised to two nonleague wins over Loudonville. Caden Fiala led the Huskies with five hits, two RBIs and four runs scored, while Cade St. Clair added three hits and five RBIs. Luke Wright chipped in five hits, and Brandon Barnette had three hits. Ryan Walter struck out three in four innings to earn a win in the first game, while Aaron Hales went the distance with seven strikeout in the second game. Judah Layton (RBI) and Dilan Wade both had two hits to lead the Redbirds.

PLYMOUTH 10, SOUTH CENTRAL 3 South Central fell to Plymouth in Firelands Conference action. Kayden Hauler led the Trojans with two hits, including a double.

FRIDAY, 4/29

Boys track & field

BOB ROYER INVITATIONAL South Central finished second in the 11-team field. Trey Beverly won the 400 meters in a meet-record time of 50.75 seconds, while Carson Music won the 200 in a meet-record time of 22.91. The 4x200 relay of Music, Isaac Blair, Parker Gray and Beverly finished first and set a meet and school record with a time of 1:32.85. The same quartet won the 4x400 relay with a meet-record time of 3:32.71. Finishing second for SC were Blair in the 400, Gray in the 800 and Beverly in the 200.

MARION NIGHT INVITATIONAL Ashland finished fifth in the 14-team field. Finishing second for the Arrows were Trae Boyd in the long jump (20-6¼), Lukah Will in the 800 (2:03.44) and Seth Will in the shot put (46-5), while placing third were Bryant Hosse in the 100 (11.45), Ashden Maffett in the pole vault (11-6) and Tyler Sauder in the 800 (2:03.65).

Softball

CRESTVIEW 7, NEW LONDON 4 Sophie Durbin and Mary Leeper both banged out three hits as Crestview downed New London in Firelands Conference action. Durbin finished with a double and a home run, stole three bases, knocked in two runs and scored three times, while Leeper ended with two doubles, swiped two bases and scored twice. Kalee Hamman struck out five in a complete-game victory. Madison Rowland led the Wildcats with two hits (triple), two RBIs and two runs scored. Emilee Rowland had two hits at the plate, and she struck out 10 in a complete-game loss.

SOUTH CENTRAL 14, LUCAS 4 Olivia Hudson had three hits and two RBIs to lead South Central past Lucas in nonconference play. Kaylee Richards and Maddy Prater both added three hits, while Annie Cook (two RBIs, two runs scored), Hannah Ayers and Makena Calame all chipped in two hits. Kyrstin Hamons, Tabby Sherer and Emalee Richards all drove in two runs. Prater struck out eight in four innings to earn a win in the circle.

HILLSDALE 6, ONTARIO 2 Hillsdale scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning to beat Ontario in nonleague play. Kylie Ohl went 4 for 4 and scored two runs to lead the Falcons, while Belle Dalton had a home run and two RBIs. Taylor Morgan went the distance in the circle, striking out 11.

BLACK RIVER 2, CHIPPEWA 1 Black River's Lilly Stief went the distance in the circle with 12 strikeouts in a nonleague win over Chippewa. Carly Eckert led the way with three hits, while Mandy Hopkins had two hits.

HOBAN 9, NORTHWESTERN 3 Hoban knocked off Northwestern in a nonconference battle. Olivia Amstutz led the Huskies with two hits and two RBIs, while Audrey Franks chipped in two hits.

Baseball

CRESTVIEW 7, NEW LONDON 4 Crestview knocked off New London in FC action. Josh Myers (double), Jarek Ringler and Matthew Volz all had two hits and an RBI to lead the Cougars. Hunter George struck out five to earn a win on the mound.

SMITHVILLE 7, NORTHWESTERN 1 Smithville knocked off Northwestern in a Wayne County Athletic League clash. Jacob Ward drove in a run to pace the Huskies, while Brandon Barnette tossed four scoreless innings with six strikeouts in relief.

PERKINS 11, ASHLAND 2 Perkins jumped out to a 7-2 lead at the end of three innings and never looked back in a nonleague win over Ashland. Landon McFrederick had two hits to lead the Arrows, while Aidan Chandler drove in a run.

Girls track & field

BOB ROYER INVITATIONAL South Central finished third in the 10-team field. Winning events for SC were Angela Williams in the 100 (13.30) and Claire Osborn in the discus (111-1), while finishing second were Gracelyn Lamoreaux in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles, the 4x200 relay, Osborn in the shot put and Onalee Keysor in the pole vault.

MARION NIGHT INVITATIONAL Ashland finished 10th in the 14-team field. Aveline Wilhelm finished second in the shot put and third in the discus to lead the Arrows, while Dana Frazier placed third in the pole vault.

THURSDAY, 4/28

Baseball

BLACK RIVER 10, CLEARVIEW 0 Black River's Ethan Foster tossed a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts in a six-inning Lorain County 8 win over Clearview. Foster and Carter Kocik (three runs scored, home run) both had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Pirates, while Hunter McJunkins and Evan Ladina both drove in two runs.

CRESTVIEW 3, WESTERN RESERVE 2 Crestview's Owen Barker knocked in Hunter George in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat Western Reserve in Firelands Conference action. Barker finished with three hits, including a double. Tyson Ringler tossed the final two innings to earn a win in relief. Mason Ringler went the first seven innings, striking out 11.

HILLSDALE 10, ORRVILLE 0 Mark Abel tossed a four-hitter as Hillsdale rolled to a five-inning nonconference win over Orrville. At the plate, Abel had two doubles, two RBIs and scored three runs. Jax Rogers drove in three runs, while Owen Hoffman knocked in two runs. Nick Kandel chipped in two hits, and Caden Fickes scored two runs.

SOUTH CENTRAL 10, OPEN DOOR CHRISTIAN 7 South Central picked up a nonleague win over Open Door Christian. Karl Farber (double, three RBIs), Sam Seidel (three runs scored) and Eric Sanders (two RBIs) all had two hits to lead the Trojans. Aaron Hauler went the first five innings to earn a win on the mound, striking out five.

LUCAS 11, LOUDONVILLE 6 Loudonville fell to Lucas in a Mid-Buckeye Conference battle. Aidan Wolford had two hits (double) and knocked in three runs to pace the Redbirds. Boe Weiser (two RBIs, double) and Dilan Wade both added two hits, while Matt Sprang scored two runs.

Softball

SOUTH CENTRAL 2, PLYMOUTH 0 Maddy Prater tossed a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts as South Central downed Plymouth in an FC clash. Annie Cook paced the Trojans with two hits and an RBI.

HILLSDALE 11, SMITHVILLE 0 Mollie Goon slashed two hits, including a home run, and knocked in four runs to lead Hillsdale to a five-inning WCAL win over Smithville. Kylie Ohl (three runs scored) and Belle Dalton (home run, two RBIs) both added three hits, while Taylor Morgan and Jacey Sermulis both chipped in two hits. Keira Filius earned a win in the circle, allowing one hit with two strikeouts in three innings.

CRESTVIEW 15, WESTERN RESERVE 1 Mary Leeper went 4 for 5 with a double, three stolen bases, two RBIs and four runs scored to lead Crestview past Western Reserve in an FC battle. PJ Endicott had two hits, including a triple and a double, knocked in two runs and scored three times, while Sophie Durbin had two hits (triple), swiped three bases and scored three runs. Chesnie Patton went the distance in the circle, striking out 12.

NEW LONDON 13, NORWALK 0 New London's Emilee Rowland tossed a four-hitter with seven strikeouts in a five-inning nonleague win over Norwalk. Emilee Rowland and Madison Rowland (two runs scored) both had two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs to pace the Wildcats. Laila Rollin added two hits, two RBIs and scored two runs, while Jocelyn Speicher, Madison Williams and Tara Davidson all scored two runs.

BLACK RIVER 13, CLEARVIEW 1 Abbie Graves, Emma Steif (two runs scored) and Rhianna Fulk (two RBIs) all slashed three hits to lead Black River to a five-inning LC8 victory over Clearview. Lilly Stief added two hits, knocked in two runs and scored two runs, while Jordan Bradford drove in three runs. Mandy Hopkins scored three runs, while Kendall Gaspari crossed the plate twice. Bradford allowed one unearned run on one hit with eight strikeouts to earn a complete-game victory.

WEDNESDAY, 4/27

Baseball

SOUTH CENTRAL 8, ST. PAUL 7 South Central knocked off Firelands Conference rival St. Paul in eight innings. Sam Seidel led the Trojans with three hits. Kayden Hauler and Cole Wolfrum (two RBIs) both added two hits, while Karl Ferber smacked a home run and walked four times. Carson Music earned a win in relief, striking out two.

HILLSDALE 11, SMITHVILLE 1 Hillsdale rolled to a five-inning Wayne County Athletic League win over Smithville. Jack Fickes had two hits and two RBIs to pace the Falcons. Mark Abel added two hits and scored twice, while Jake Hoverstock and Daniel Painter (two runs scored) both knocked in two runs. Caden Fickes went the distance on the mound, allowing one run on two hits with three strikeouts.

BLACK RIVER 9, BROOKSIDE 1 Noak Hopek allowed one unearned run on three hits with eight strikeouts to lead Black River to a Lorain County 8 win over Brookside. John Kray had two hits and scored twice to pace BR.

WAYNEDALE 17, NORTHWESTERN 1 Waynedale cruised to a five-inning WCAL win over Northwestern. Jamison Holtz drove in a run to lead the Huskies.

Softball

SOUTH CENTRAL 16, ST. PAUL 1 South Central rolled to an FC win over St. Paul. Maddy Prater led the Trojans with a double and four RBIs, while Kyrstin Hamons had three hits and scored twice. Makena Calame and Lydia Chaffee both had two hits and drove in two runs. Hannah Ayers added two RBIs, and Tabby Sherer chipped in two hits. Ayers earned a complete-game victory in the circle, striking out 10 while allowing one run on three hits.

PLYMOUTH 9, MAPLETON 2 Mapleton fell to Plymouth in FC action. Caitlyn Vermilya had two hits (double) and drove in a run to lead the Mounties.

BROOKSIDE 6, BLACK RIVER 0 Brookside blanked Black River in LC8 action. Mandy Hopkins paced the Pirates with a double.

WAYNEDALE 14, NORTHWESTERN 7 Waynedale broke open a tied game with nine runs in the fifth inning to pick up a WCAL win over Northwestern. Daylie Rickard had three hits and scored twice to lead the Huskies, while Marina Aulger added a double and two RBIs.

Boys track & field

BLACK RIVER 88, OBERLIN 44 Black River knocked off Oberlin in an LC8 dual. Finishing first for the Pirates were the 4x800 relay of Jared Bradford, Dillon Royster, Logan Clifford and Treyce Wood, the 4x200 relay of Nathan Urbas, Stephan Kozopas, Aden MacFarlane and Blake Hopkins, the 4x100 relay of Urbas, Kozopas, Andon O'Neal and Hopkins, the 4x400 relay of Wood, Urbas, Clifford and Kozopas, O'Neal in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles, Jared Bradford in the 1,600 and 800, Urbas in the 200, Royster in the 3,200 and Daniel Jeske in the discus and shot put.

TUESDAY, 4/26

Baseball

CRESTVIEW 10, NEW LONDON 0 Owen Barker slashed a double and knocked in three runs as Crestview cruised to a five-inning win over Firelands Conference rival New London. Jarek Ringler and Klint Patton both had two hits, while Mason Ringler and Gavin Barker both drove in two runs. Jarek Ringler earned the mound win, striking out eight without a walk.

HILLSDALE 14, SMITHVILLE 4 Jack Fickes had three hits, including two triples, drove in three runs and scored twice as Hillsdale rolled to a six-inning win over Smithville in a Wayne County Athletic League clash. Caden Fickes added three hits and scored twice, while Nick Kandel had two hits, three RBIs and scored two runs. Mark Abel chipped in two hits, two RBIs and scored twice as the Falcons banged out 15 hits. Kandel earned the complete-game victory, striking out five.

ASHLAND 11, MANSFIELD SENIOR 0 Luke Bryant tossed a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts as Ashland rolled to a six-inning win over Ohio Cardinal Conference rival Mansfield Senior. Parker Grissinger went 3 for 3 to pace the Arrows, while Ethan Bunce, Owen Shade (double) and Alex Grissinger all added two RBIs.

LUCAS 2, LOUDONVILLE 0 Loudonville fell to Lucas in a Mid-Buckeye Conference battle. Dilan Wade suffered the tough-luck mound loss, allowing two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts in six innings.

WAYNEDALE 7, NORTHWESTERN 0 Waynedale blanked Northwestern in a WCAL tilt. Cade St. Clair (two walks) and Jacoby Gilbert (single, walk) both reached base twice to lead the Huskies.

Softball

MAPLETON 7, PLYMOUTH 1 Emilee Dennison went the distance in the circle to lead Mapleton past Plymouth in FC action. The sophomore struck out six and allowed one run. Caitlyn Vermilya led the Mounties with two RBIs, while Tressa Moody had two hits (double).

NORTHWESTERN 22, WAYNEDALE 3 Northwestern erased a 3-1 deficit with 21 unanswered runs in a WCAL win over Waynedale. Olivia Amstutz struck out eight and went the distance to earn the win. Quinn Fast paced the Huskies with four hits (home run) and six RBIs. Daylie Rickard added thee hits and two RBIs, while Avery Garver chipped in two hits and three RBIs.

ASHLAND 18, MANSFIELD SENIOR 0 Ashland's Makaree Chapman threw a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts in a five-inning win over OCC foe Mansfield Senior. Natalie Atkins (three runs scored), Kristen Stromack (four RBIs, three runs scored), Averi Iceman (two RBIs, two runs scored, home run), Brandilyn Reymer (three RBIs, two runs scored) and Hannah Miller (two runs scored) all had three hits for the Arrows. Hailey Lang (two runs scored) and Taylor Schmitz (home run, two RBIs) both added two hits.

LOUDONVILLE 15, LUCAS 0 Loudonville's Morgan McClure went 4 for 4 with two RBIs and three runs scored in a five-inning win over MBC foe Lucas. Maddie Kline had three hits and two RBIs, while Goldie Layton slashed two hits, knocked in two runs and scored twice. Payton VanSickle (two runs scored) and Natalee Buzzard both drove in two runs, while Karena Burgess had two hits and scored twice. Buzzard tossed a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts to earn the win.

SOUTH CENTRAL 19, ST. PAUL 2 South Central banged out 21 hits in a six-inning win over FC rival St. Paul. Hannah Ayers (four runs scored) and Maddy Prater (two runs scored) both had four hits and two RBIs to lead the Trojans. Olivia Hudson (three RBIs), Annie Cook (two RBIs, two runs scored), Makena Calame (three runs scored, two RBIs), and Lydia Chaffee (four RBIs, two runs scored) all chipped in three hits. Kaylee Richards added three RBIs and scored twice. Prater picked up the complete-game win, striking out five and allowing two unearned runs.

HILLSDALE 7, SMITHVILLE 0 Hillsdale's Taylor Morgan tossed a one-hitter with 18 strikeouts in a WCAL win over Smithville. The junior also smacked a two-run home run. Lacey Fickes added two hits (double) and three RBIs, while Kylie Ohl (three runs scored) and Belle Dalton both chipped in two hits.

KEYSTONE 7, BLACK RIVER 0 Keystone shut out Black River in Lorain County 8 action. Lilly Stief paced the Pirates with a double.

Boys track & field

WAYNEDALE 75.5, SMITHVILLE 54, NORTHWESTERN 48.5 Northwestern placed third in a WCAL triangular. Winning events for NW were Nolan Hartsel in the pole vault, Jacob Wakefield in the high jump and 300 hurdles, the 4x200 relay, the 4x100 relay and Colin Good in the 200.

SHELBY 104, ONTARIO 36, SOUTH CENTRAL 35 South Central finished third in a nonleague triangular. Carson Music won the high jump and 400 to lead the Trojans.

Girls track & field

WAYNEDALE 68, NORTHWESTERN 51, SMITHVILLE 51 Northwestern finished tied for second in a WCAL triangular. Winning events for the Huskies were Emily Thompson in the discus and shot put, Ella Hartsel in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles and Maddie Gray in the pole vault and long jump.

SHELBY 73, ONTARIO 61, SOUTH CENTRAL 37 South Central placed third in a nonconference triangular. Claire Osborn won the shot put and discus for SC, while Angela Williams won the long jump and 200.

MONDAY, 4/25

Softball

MAPLETON 11, NEW LONDON 1 Heidi Earl had a huge game at the plate to lead Mapleton past Firelands Conference rival New London in five innings. The sophomore smacked two home runs and a double while driving in six runs and scoring three times. Kaylee Haines added three hits (double) and scored three runs, while Holly Earl slashed a triple and a double, knocked in two runs and scored twice. Emilee Dennison earned the complete-game victory, striking out seven. Emilee Rowland struck out four to lead the Wildcats.

NEW PHILADELPHIA 3, ASHLAND 0 Ashland was shut out by New Philadelphia in a nonleague battle. Hailey Lang reached base twice to pace the Arrows.
