Our score predictions for Clemson vs. Boston College

Dabo Swinney and Clemson head to Massachusetts this week for an away matchup with the Boston College Golden Eagles at 7:30 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.

The Tigers are coming off yet another big-time win as the team exited Week 5 with a 30-20 win over a top-10 opponent in Dave Doeren’s NC State. The offense and defense both showed up against the Wolfpack, continuing their undefeated run in the 2022 season. Though Boston College is an easier matchup, they are not one for this Clemson team to overlook.

Clemson (5-0, 3-0 ACC) heads into this Week 6 matchup as the favorites once again, as the Tigers have been the top dog in the conference while Boston College has had its fair share of struggles. It should be an interesting matchup as Clemson heads to Alumni Stadium for the Golden Eagles’ “Red Bandana Game”, which is always exciting.

Here at Clemson Wire, the staff broke down their predictions for the Tigers’ matchup with Boston College. Here’s a look at what we’re thinking.

Clemson hasn’t played their best football in their last two appearances against Boston College, but I don’t expect this trend to go any further than this. Swinney and the Tigers are coming off back-to-back massive performances against two top 25 teams in Wake Forest and NC State. While there are teams who would come into this away matchup, see that it’s the “Red Bandana Game,” and play down to their opponent’s level, I don’t believe that is part of the identity of this Clemson team. Through five weeks of the 2022 season, this group has improved game by game. DJ Uiagalelei is playing the best football of his career, while the Tigers’ defense is coming off a statement performance against Devin Leary and the NC State offense. I’m expecting this team to come out Saturday night and show everyone an even better Clemson team than we’ve seen so far this season.

Clemson’s margin of victory in each of its past two games against Boston College was six points, but I’m expecting much more of a blowout this time around. Although the last two weeks have been very tough for the Tigers, head coach Dabo Swinney is 12-1 against the Eagles and has won by double-digits in all but three of the 12 wins. Coming off a strong outing against NC State last week, I believe Clemson’s defense will revert to its 2021 form and smother the Eagles this week. Meanwhile, the Tigers’ offense has found its identity and has looked far better through five games than it did at any point last season. If DJ Uiagalelei can deliver the ball to his weapons, Clemson should be able to score at least 40 points on a Boston College defense that is giving up 373.2 yards per game.

Despite only 12 points separating the two teams over their last two meetings, I think Clemson will be able to take home another win no problem versus Boston College this weekend. The Tigers have remained undefeated after two back-to-back weeks of top 25 competition against Wake Forest and NC State. Quarterback DJ Uiagalelei continues to look better and better each week and seems to be blossoming into the quarterback we all expected to see last season. If Uiagalelei continues to perform at a high level, the Tigers offense will have no issues against a Boston College defense that has allowed 143 points and nearly 2,000 yards of offense through just five games (2-3) this season. On the defensive side, Clemson will face another challenge in veteran quarterback Phil Jurkovec and star receiver Zay Flowers. Though the status of the Tigers secondary remains unclear, Clemson’s secondary will need to show up in a big way to shut down the Eagles passing game early.
