Memorial scholarship created in honor of Mapleton senior who died at football game

The Mapleton Local School District announced Monday a memorial scholarship has been set up in honor of Breanne McKean, a Mapleton student who passed away Friday night at a Mapleton football game during homecoming festivities.

Funds from the memorial scholarship are tax-deductible grants that are given to students to help pay for educational costs, which include tuition, fees and more.

The Breanne McKean Memorial Scholarship will be set up through the Ashland County Community Foundation in Ashland. Donations can be sent to 300 College Ave., Ashland 44805, or donate online at www.ashlandforgood.org.

There also is a fundraiser the class of 2024 at Mapleton High School started called #LiveLikeBre Apparel Fundraiser 2023. The fundraiser includes sweatshirt and T-shirt apparel with McKean's No. 21 on it, which is the number she wore as a member of the volleyball and basketball teams.
