Schenevus tops CV-S; Franklin's Kingsbury scores 100th goal

Oct. 12—Lily Competiello scored two second-half goals to lead the Schenevus girls soccer team over Cherry Valley-Springfield 2-1 at home Thursday.

Cady Ritton tallied an assist on Competiello's second goal.

Morgan Huff scored early in the second half for CV-S.

Leah Brundege had two assists in the win while Daphnee West had 16 in the loss.

Both teams will play in the first round of the Section IV Class D Tournament Wednesday when Schenevus hosts Margaretville and CV-S visits South Kortright.

Franklin 2, Laurens 2

Shannon Kingsbury scored her 100th career varsity goal Thursday to become just the second Franklin player to do so as the Purple Devils tied Laurens 2-2.

Patty Uzenski is the only other Franklin player to reach 100 goals, doing so in 1988.

Haylee Taggart scored the other goal for the Purple Devils while Eowyn Chickerell and Victoria Stevens each scored for the Leopards.

Maddie Hyzer tallied seven saves for Franklin while Rylee Williams had six for Laurens.

Franklin will host a quarterfinal game in the Section IV Class D Tournament next Saturday and will take on the winner of Wednesday's game between Laurens and Stamford/Jefferson.

Unatego 5, Oxford 2

Unatego scored four goals in the first half to defeat Oxford 5-2 at home Thursday.

Natalia Barnes scored two goals and two assists while Bailey McCoy had a goal and two assists and Lizzie Craft and Peyton Coleman each scored a goal for the Spartans.

Kayla Knapp had a pair of goals for the Blackhawks, assisted by Taegan Manwarren and Paige Rickard.

Dixie Boglioli tallied six saves in the win while Raya Warner had 14 in the loss.

Both teams will play in the opening round of the Section IV Class C Tournament Wednesday when Unatego visits Tioga and Oxford visits Marathon.

Delhi 3, Bainbridge-Guilford 2

Delhi edged Bainbridge-Guilford 3-2 in Thursday's Midstate Athletic Conference crossover matchup.

Delhi went up 2-0 early thanks to goals by Luciane Smith and Eleanor Wagner. But the Bobcats responded with a goal by Johnna Henderson to cut things to 2-1 at halftime.

Breanna Casey then tied things up midway through the second half on a free kick goal.

But Delhi's Natalie Vredenburgh came up with the game-winner just two minutes later thanks to an assist by Tyler Abts.

Peyton Garcia made four saves for Delhi while B-G's Gabriella Cuozzo had seven stops.

Delhi will visit Unadilla Valley next Wednesday in the Class C sectional playoffs while B-G hosts Groton the same day in the Class C tourney.

Cooperstown 1, Mount Markham 0 (Wednesday)

Cooperstown blanked Mount Markham 1-0 in Wednesday's Center State Conference matchup.

Rory Nelen scored the lone goal for the Hawkeyes with Sophia Hotaling providing the assist.

Brenna Seamon made six saves to earn the clean sheet.

Cooperstown will host Westmoreland Friday.

The game was called after one overtime period due to darkness.

Charlie Lambert finished with seven saves to earn the shutout for the Hawkeyes.

The Oneonta volleyball team fell at home to Chenango Forks in straight sets Thursday by scores of 25-19, 26-24, 25-21.

The Yellowjackets' top performers were Aubry Microni with 18 assists and five aces, Hayden LeFever with six kills and two blocks and Izzy Giacomelli with four digs.

Leading Forks were Emily Johnson (six blocks, four aces), Maggie Warpus (10 kills), Alyssa Specchio (29 assists) and Lynnee Sutton (10 digs).

Oneonta (6-8 overall, 4-8 league) will be at Chenango Valley next Monday.
