How Savannah area athletes excelled at the GHSA State Track and Field Meets

The Georgia High School Association held its State Track and Field Meets at several locations throughout the state this week, and Savannah area athletes put on an impressive show with a plethora of medalists who came through with podium finishes in the Top 8 of their events.

Savannah Christian senior Jadyn Singleton ended her stellar high school career with a flourish as she repeated as the Class 3A state champion in the long jump with a leap of 18-feet, 6 inches and doubled up as the champion in the Triple Jump with a mark of 39-1.

Singleton, who is headed to Georgia on a cheerleading scholarship, also took home a fourth place medal in the 100 meters with a time of 12:15.

"All my events are important, but I think winning the triple jump meant the most to me this year because it was a new event for me and I put so much time into it," Singleton said. "To see that hard work pay off was great. And winning the High Point Award at state in my last meet was special.

"I was looking for 19 feet in the long jump, but was happy to win. And I felt good about the fourth place in the 100 meters since I was racing out of lane eight against some talented competition."

Her teammate, Jamari McIvory, defended his title as the Class 3A 400 meter champion with a personal best time of 47.11 and was second in the 200 meters (21.45).

Coray Stafford of Jenkins came on strong as the junior took home a gold medal in the Class 5A 100 meters with a time of 10.63 in the finals.

Richmond Hill's Billy Cunningham delivered a personal best with a leap of 24-feet to take the Class 7A long jump title.

Benedictine had a strong showing in the Class 4A meet as the Cadets won the 4x200 relay crown with a time of 1:27.11 as Na'Seir Samuel, Jack Ganem, Stanley Smart Jr., and Bubba Frazier finished atop the podium.

The Cadet 4x100 meter relay squad of Stephen Cannon, Frazier, Samuel and Smart Jr. finished second in 41.85.

Savannah Country Day junior Andrew Wynn won the Class 3A 300 hurdles in 39.16 and was second in the 110 meter hurdles (14.59).

Liberty County junior Jaidyn Hayes won the Class 3A girls discus title with a throw of 123-10 and was eighth in the shot put.
