Saturday's Top Prep Performers: Pacifica boys soccer team stays in first in Channel League

Highlights from Saturday in high school sports:

BOYS SOCCER

  • Michael Sauceda had a goal and an assist, Bryant Martinez, Jorge Alfaro and Adrian Arroyo netted goals, and Andy Martinez finished with two assists to lead first-place Pacifica (14-5-1, 7-2-1) to a 4-0 victory over Oxnard in a Channel League match. Andy Gomez made seven saves for the Yellowjackets (12-6-1, 5-4-1).

  • Cristiano Alvarez and Chris Lopez scored goals and Marcos Hernandez and Joseph Ramirez had assists to lead Ventura (10-4-2, 6-3-2) to a 2-0 victory over San Marcos in a Channel League match.

  • Aiden Gonzalez scored a goal off an assist from David Marmolejo and Ignacio Lopez-Ambriz played well in net to help Rio Mesa (8-8-6, 1-6-3) earn a 1-1 draw with Dos Pueblos in a Channel League match.

  • Buena (6-8-5, 2-6-2) lost 2-0 to Santa Barbara in a Channel League match.

  • Jesus Angel Avila scored two goals, Jesus Canchola had a goal and an assist, Danny Medina scored a goal, and Jared Ramos finished with two assists to lead Fillmore (5-7-6, 3-4-2) to a 4-0 victory over Malibu in a Citrus Coast League match.

GIRLS SOCCER

  • Oxnard (9-3-2, 6-2-2) and Pacifica (4-8-2, 4-4-2) played to a 0-0 draw in a Channel League match.

  • Kayalily Penn netted a hat trick and had an assist, Kameron Rodriguez finished with a goal and an assist, Tyler Hickerson scored a goal, Alexis Kimble had two assists, Tatiana Padilla had an assist, and Emma Gray earned the shutout in net as Buena (11-3-1, 9-0-1) remained unbeaten in the Channel League with a 6-0 victory over Santa Barbara.

  • Veronica Baehr, Kayla Golson, Tanaya Moreno and Ella Rosenbaum played well for Rio Mesa in its 2-0 loss to Dos Pueblos in a Channel League match.

  • Ventura (6-11-1, 3-6) suffered a 2-1 loss to San Marcos in a Channel League match.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

  • Jasmine Moore scored 11 points, Jessie Sebek had nine points, Emily Rea had eight points, Kai Staniland and Mya Rodriguez each had seven points, Ava Ortman had six points, Makayla Estrada had five points, and Carys Thompson and Kaiya Cooke each added four points as Ventura (20-3, 8-1) remained all alone in first place in the Channel League with a 63-25 victory over Pacifica in in a Channel League game.

  • Skye Thomas scored 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds, Karisma Lewis finished with 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists, and Mimi Moon added nine points and seven assists to lead Buena (16-5, 7-2) to a 64-36 victory over Santa Barbara in a Channel League game.

  • Sienna Angell scored 14 points, Mikayla Oliver had 13 points, Sofia Salgado finished with 12 points, Kayla Lumas and Charnelle Nichols each had eight points, and Azalea Kubic added six points to lead Oxnard (18-5, 7-2) to a 65-43 win over San Marcos in a Channel League game.

  • Christa Contreras finished with 27 points, nine rebounds and six steals, Emerson Martin had 15 points, eight steals and six assists, Daniela Rocha had 11 points and five assists, and Elizabeth Rocha contributed five points, two assists and two steals to lead Camarillo (18-6) to a 70-41 victory over Franklin in a Showcase Tournament at Grant High.

BOYS BASKETBALL

  • Tyler Hook scored 16 points and was named the Player of the Game, Kasen Hurt had 11 points, Evan Dela Paz had nine points, Spencer Clausen, JD West and Shane Frank each finished with eight points, and Shawn Mills added seven points to lead Camarillo (16-9) to a 77-23 win over Santa Clara at the Heritage Christian Warrior Showcase. JD Pettit scored 11 points and Adrian Jimenez had six points for the Saints (9-12).

  • Steven Melina scored 11 points and Cody Fleetwood had nine points for Oak Park (15-9) in its 75-34 loss to Windward (18-3) at the Heritage Christian Warrior Showcase.

  • Jose Valdovinos scored 15 points, David Alvarez had 13 points, JJ De Santiago had eight points, Jacob Barreto contributed seven points, and Sabino Duarte added six points as Santa Paula (19-5, 8-0) jumped to a 31-0 lead after the first quarter and cruised to a 68-12 win over Malibu to remain unbeaten in the Citrus Coast League.

  • Levi Oakes scored 22 points and Drake Howarth had 11 points and seven rebounds for Moorpark (8-16) in its 53-51 loss to El Camino Real in a nonleague game.

  • Evan Romano had 12 points and eight rebounds, DJ Jacob scored 11 points, and Mathis Simonet grabbed 13 rebounds for Agoura (8-15) in its 59-56 loss to Palisades in a nonleague game.

  • Matt Bustamante had 12 points and six rebounds, Jeremy Kirchner had 11 points and five rebounds, and Cayden Budlong and Rob Holdsworth each scored seven points for Nordhoff (4-17) in its 51-42 loss to host Thacher (8-5) in a nonleague game.

  • Carter Reid had 14 points and five rebounds, Caymen Wimmer had 12 points and six rebounds, and Tyler Pickett had 10 points and six rebounds for Hillcrest Christian (15-6) in its 61-58 loss to Granada Hills in a nonleague game.

BOYS WRESTLING

  • Gavin Cortez, Robert Ramirez, Nathaniel Moreno, Ayden Segovia, Julian Villegas and Eduardo Arevalo won titles in their respective weight classes, John Ramirez, Alexander Garcia and Salvador Bibian each took second, Maximo Bautista was third, and Adan Bautista placed fourth to lead Pacifica to a first-place team finish at the Thunderclap Tournament at Thousand Oaks High.

GIRLS WRESTLING

  • Kaylee Hernandez won her division, Sakala Ale took third, Samaya Bazile placed fourth, Lizbeth Vargas finished fifth, Betsabe Velasco was sixth, Samantha Salazar placed seventh, and Bricieda Trejo was eighth as Pacifica finished fourth as a team at the John Glenn Tournament.

GIRLS WATER POLO

  • Santa Paula defeated Saddleback 17-0 and Rancho Alamitos 8-2 to finish the two-day Buena Tournament with a 3-1 record. Lindsey Ramirez finished the day with 14 goals, four steals, four drawn exclusions and three assists and Deanna Soto had six goals, four assists, four steals and three drawn exclusions for the Cardinals (15-6).
