Anna Tretton got the offense going early and Adriana Jeannenot owned the circle as the Chargers beat the Saints, 9-1, and earned a spot in the double-elimination portion of the state tournament.

Tretton put Chariho on the board first with a two-out second-inning double that scored Brianna DeGiacomo. Tretton later scored on an error and gave the Chargers instant confidence at the plate.

In the third, Erin O’Leary hit a two-run single. In the fourth, Madeline Dorgan hit an RBI triple and scored on a passed ball. In the sixth, a groundout scored Tretton that made it 8-1 and Dorgan tied a bow on the win with an inside the park home run.

The offensive fireworks gave Jeannenot more run support than she needed. The freshman ace was lights out, throwing a complete game and giving up just four hits, one run and striking out 14.

Dorgan and Kesten Hanks both had two hits, two RBI and two runs apiece. Tretton went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Division III winners’ bracket semifinal

Izzy Sousa, Cranston East softball

No. 1 Cranston East 5, No. 4 Davies 2

Freshman Izzy Sousa came up big on offense and in the circle, guiding the Thunderbolts to a 5-2 win over the Patriots.

Sousa was her usual self in her playoff debut. Cranston East’s ace threw all seven innings, giving up two runs on two hits while walking three and striking out 16 batters.

The effort was needed in the circle because Davies’ pitcher Gabriella Fisher was keeping the damage to a minimum, preventing the Thunderbolts’ electric offense from putting up big numbers.

Davies defense gave Cranston East a run in the third and in the fourth, the Thundebolts added to the lead on a single by Jaeda Viveiros that scored Sousa and Samaya Imondi. Sousa scored another run in the fifth and Nevaeh Fatorma’s RBI double helped give Cranston East some breathing room late.

The Patriots’ scored their two runs on an inside the park home run by Fisher in the sixth inning.

Cranston East earns a spot in the Division III Winners’ Bracket Final and will fight for a spot in Saturday’s Division III Championship Game when it hosts Tiverton on Tuesday.

Davies drops to the losers’ bracket and will travel to play Pawtucket Tuesday.

After giving up the lead in the top of the seventh, Eilish Condon came to the rescue in the bottom of the inning before Lia Doster got the game-winning hit in the eighth in the Tigers’ 7-6 win over the Raiders.

Tiverton led 5-4 heading to the seventh inning when Pawtucket staged a rally. Cheyenne Cooper came up with a clutch hit that led to the game-tying run and Janayah Gordon followed with an RBI single that put the Raiders ahead, 6-5.

The Tigers looked to be in trouble after Gordon retired the first two batters in the seventh. Sara Poland brought Tiverton some life with a single and Condon followed with a drive to center that allowed Poland to score the tying run and force extra innings.

Tiverton pitcher Abby DeMello stranded the go-ahead run at second in the top of the eighth and in the bottom, the two-out magic struck again. With Jersey-Ann Hastie on second base representing the winning run, Doster ripped a shot to right field that brought her home and sends Tiverton to the winners’ bracket final.

Poland was huge for the Tigers in the win, going 3-for-4 with one RBI and two runs. Hastie had two hits in the game and Doster had one hit while driving in two. Condon finished with two RBI.
