SATURDAY PREP ROUNDUP: Neoga boys fall to Sullivan, defeat Cisne at Neoga Mary Sur Shootout

Nov. 27—NEOGA — Tied at 43 with under one minute to go, Sullivan head boys basketball coach Craig Toler drew up a play with the hopes that his team wouldn't unravel.

That play worked.

Aiden Ballinger received the ball on the right wing and buried a three-pointer that pushed Sullivan ahead of Neoga by three points, 46-43, on the second day of the Neoga Mary Sur Shootout.

"The key to that play was that we drew a man play out of the timeout and then they went 1-2-2 and our kids didn't panic," Toler said. "They got organized and we moved the ball. Aiden stepped up and knocked it down."

Sullivan ended up winning the contest 50-45.

Ballinger's three-pointer were the only points of the game for him.

Camden Watkins had 20 points. Brett Bushue had 16. Dirk Lane had three and Kyle Corkill had two.

"At times, we were really good," Toler said. "Defensively, they did a good job of disrupting us. They were prepared to guard our split screens. At times, we got caught standing and watching the ball and they hammered us pretty good on the offensive glass."

Neoga (1-1) was led by Trey Sheehan with 14 points.

Gavin Ray had 13 points. Landon Titus had nine. Luke Keller had six and James Bullock had three.

"That's a good zone and when you shoot well against a zone, you're going to have a good night and if you don't, you got to find other ways," Indians' head coach Andrew Snow said. "I thought for a stretch in the third quarter, we were getting to the basket and then, they collapsed a little bit and we had to rely on some perimeter shots."
