Saltillo's Hamm, Kossuth's Eaton voted Athletes of the Week
Sep. 14—Saltillo's Caroline Hamm and Kossuth's Hank Eaton have been voted Daily Journal Athletes of the Week.
Hamm, a member of the volleyball team, has recorded 78 kills, 12 blocks and 12 service aces over her last eight matches. Saltillo sent 7-1 in that stretch and finished runner-up in Saturday's Tupelo Volleyfest tournament.
The Tigers, ranked No. 8 by the Daily Journal, are 15-4 on the season.
Hamm, a senior, won the @djournalsports Female Athlete of the Week Twitter poll with 69.6% of the vote. The other nominees were Ally Murphy of Myrtle cross country and Macie Wheatley of Wheeler volleyball.
Eaton, a senior quarterback, had a big night both throwing and running in last week's 45-28 win over Tishomingo County. He had 238 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries, plus he completed 7 of 12 passes for 128 yards and a TD.
Eaton has led the Aggies to a 2-1 start, and they're back in action Friday at Corinth.
Eaton received 65.1% of the vote in the Male Athlete of the Week poll. He beat out fellow football players Kahnen Daniels of West Point and Tre Gunn of Biggersville.
