Saira Prince did it again. She broke another one of her state hurdles records. This time in the 100-meter hurdles.

On Wednesday, the recent Gilbert Williams Field graduate broke her girls state record with a time of 13.33 seconds at the Brooks PR Invitational track and field meet in Seattle. It was good enough for second place. Akala Garrett of Albemarle, North Carolina won in a nation's fastest time of 13.13 seconds.

Prince wasn't able to break her state record of 13.59 at the AIA state high school Open championships in May at Mesa Community College due to a false start in preliminaries. But she broke her state record in the 300 hurdles twice at that meet, in the preliminaries, then in the state finals at 40.90.

Prince's new time of 13.33 in the 100 hurdles ranks seventh in the nation for a high school girl this season.

Even though she's a month removed from high school, summer meets count towards state high school records. She'll be attending Arizona State this fall.

"Saira's work ethic is something her coaches at ASU will never have to worry about," Williams Field track and field coach Kelvin Hunter said. "She is always looking for ways to improve or get better in her races.

"It could be her start, getting over hurdles, speed to hurdles, or her finish. She just wants to constantly improve."

Chandler Hamilton senior-to-be Kori Martin placed fifth at the Brooks PR in the 100 hurdles at 13.67.

Mesa Red Mountain senior Tyler Mathews was sixth in the boys 800 at the Brooks PR with a time of 1 minute, 49.58, off of his state record of 1:48.72.

Phoenix Mountain Pointe recent graduate Jayden Davis, who also signed with ASU, was just off of his 400-meter boys Arizona high school record time of 46.25 seconds, finishing third at Brooks in 46.28. Two sprinters ahead of him both broke 46 seconds.
