Sacred Heart basketball maintains unanimous No. 1 spot in Kentucky media rankings

With 61 straight victories against in-state competition, Sacred Heart Academy kept the No. 1 spot in this week’s Kentucky High School Girls Basketball Media Poll.

The Valkyries (19-7) received all 16 first-place votes after solidifying their standing Friday with a 61-49 victory over No. 3 George Rogers Clark.

Cooper (21-4) kept the No. 2 spot and is followed by GRC (23-3), Covington Holy Cross (22-5) and Pikeville (20-4) in the top five.

Sacred Heart will host Pikeville at 4 p.m. Saturday.

The Kentucky High School Girls Basketball Media Poll is conducted by 16 sports journalists — one from each of the state’s 16 basketball regions. The final poll will be released Feb. 26.

Along with the statewide top 15, voters will provide top-five rankings for their respective regions.
