Sacramento gives Xavier's Colby Jones two years guaranteed as second-round pick exception
The Sacramento Kings announced Sunday that they signed former Xavier Musketeers guard Colby Jones, the 34th overall pick in last month's NBA draft. Terms of the deal were not disclosed per team policy, but Shams Charania reported via Twitter that Jones is signing a four-year, $8.76 million rookie deal that includes two years guaranteed as the first player signed under the NBA's second-round pick exception.
The new collective bargaining agreement includes a clause that allows teams to sign a second-rounder to a three-year deal with the first season's salary worth up to the minimum annual salary for a player with one year of service, or a four-year deal with the first season's salary worth up to the minimum annual salary for a player with two years of service. Both options must include a team option as the final year.
Souley Boum, Jones' teammate last season at XU, joined him on the Kings' Summer League roster last week. Jones, Boum and the Kings are scheduled to face former Musketeers guard Adam Kunkel and the Golden State Warriors on Monday.
