Rye's Chance Donlon, Swallows' Ben Compton qualify for Colorado 3A state boys golf meet

Sep. 24—A pair of Pueblo-area boys golfers punched their tickets to the Class 3A state tournament on Thursday at Cattails Golf Course in Alamosa.

Rye's Chance Donlon and Swallows Charter Academy's Ben Compton were part of a contingent who qualified for state at the regionals.

Donlon, a senior, finished eighth in the field with a 82, while Compton, also a senior, tied for 18th with an 88.

Both players advance to the Class 3A state tournament Oct. 4 and 5 at Spring Valley Golf Club in Elizabeth.

Last year, Donlon was 33rd at the state tournament, shooting a two-day total of 164. Compton was 76th, firing a 185.

The pair join eight Pueblo players who have qualified for the Class 4A state tournament at Denver City Park Golf Course on Oct. 4 and 5.

Pueblo West was the Region 1 team champion led by medalist junior Noah Wagner.

Joining Wagner at state will be teammates Preston Allen, Michael Whittlef and Cody Ingo. Also qualifying from Pueblo were Evan Smith and Adam Romero from East, Niko Cozzetto from Pueblo County and Luis Contreras from Central.
