Rutgers baseball Chris Brito signed with the Kansas City Royals

On Monday, former Rutgers baseball Chris Brito signed with the Kansas City Royals of Major League Baseball (MLB). After signing his contract with the Royals, Brito became the third player from Rutgers 2023 team to sign with an MLB team, joining outfielder Ryan Lasko (Oakland) and right-handed pitcher Drew Conover (Oakland).

The right-handed third baseman played summer ball with the Trenton Thunder and the Staten Island Ferry Hawks this past summer after playing five seasons with the Scarlet Knights.

In 25 games with the Thunder, Brito recorded 27 hits, three home runs, 22 RBIs, and 14 walks in 87 at-bats. The 23-year-old prospect averaged a .336 batting average and a .434 on-base percentage while playing with Trenton.

While playing with the Ferry Hawks, Brito played first and third base, recording 59 hits, 11 home runs, 49 RBIs, and a .317 batting average in 186 at-bats.

In 213 games with the Scarlet Knights, Brito became one of the most accomplished hitters in program history. The Perth Amboy, New Jersey, native became the Scarlet Knights’ all-time home run (46) and RBIs leader (200) this past spring.

Also, the 6-foot-1, 225-pound infielder set the school single-season record with 74 RBIs in 2022 and became the 19th player in Rutgers history to reach 200 career hits (229). He is the first player in program history to record three straight seasons of ten or more home runs.
