Thursday's result: SeaWolves build early lead, cruise past Ducks

After Wednesday's postponement due to the smoke-filled air from Canadian wildfires, the RubberDucks started their holiday weekend series against the Erie SeaWolves with a 9-3 loss Thursday night. Ross Carver lasted 1-2/3 innings as the Ducks starter. He was tagged for seven hits and all eight runs that Erie scored in the first two innings. Before Matt Turner could replace Carver with two outs in the second inning, the SeaWolves had roughed up Carver with a double, four singles, a walk and hit batter to increase their lead with five more runs.

Turner stopped the bleed by working 4-1/3 innings, giving up just one hit, no runs and walking two. Zach Hart closed out the mound work for Akron with two innings of work and allowing just one hit; a solo home run by Erie shortstop Andrew Navigato in the seventh inning.
