Akron RubberDucks results: Peyton Battenfield, Tommy Mace pitch Ducks over Senators

Peyton Battenfield’s strong rehab start and Tommy Mace’s solid relief guided the Akron RubberDucks to a 5-1 win Sunday afternoon over the Harrisburg Senators heading into the All-Star break.

Akron jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. Petey Halpin singled to open the game and Juan Brito walked with one out. One out later, Korey Holland walked to load the bases and Aaron Bracho lined a single to center field, scoring Halpin and Brito.

Battenfield struck out the first two batters he faced and retired the first six in a row. He pitched 4⅔ innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out two. Trey Benton struck out the only batter he faced to finish out the fifth.

Mace (2-2) then followed with four shutout innings, only allowing two runners to enter scoring position while striking out four.

The Ducks put two more runs on the board in the fifth inning, and Halpin hit a solo home run, his fourth, in the sixth.

The Ducks return to action Friday with a three-game series in Bowie, Md.

Saturday results: Ducks collect 12 hits in win over Senators

The RubberDucks rebounded from Friday's loss and got back to their winning ways with a 5-2 win over Harrisburg at Canal Park on Saturday night.

The Ducks (41-39) used 12 hits including four doubles to jump out to a 5-0 lead heading into the eighth inning. Korey Holland stayed hot, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, a walk and a run scored. Jose Tena ripped his 17th double of the season, driving in one before coming around to score.

Will Dion (1-1) delivered another outstanding start, going six shutout innings with two walks and six strikeouts. Mason Hickman, Matt Turner and Bradley Hanner finished out the final three innings to preserve the win.

Friday's result: Senators need extra innings to snap RubberDucks winning streak

On Friday at Canal Park, the Harrisburg Senators needed 10 innings to snap the RubberDucks 4-game winning streak, downing the hosts 3-2. After Akron took the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Senators tied the game in the top of the ninth inning on back-to-back singles and a double by Terone Harris.

In the 10th inning, Donovan Casey's double off of Ducks reliever Jordan Jones scored Jack Dunn with Harrisburg's go-ahead run. Jones suffered the loss and blown save. He is now 1-3 after his second blown save opportunity.

Jack Leftwich was sharp in his first outing off the injured list for Akron. The right-hander allowed a single and walk in the first inning, but then settled in to retire the next four in order to end his two scoreless innings of work. Hunter Stanley followed with 6-1/3 innings of work, allowing two runs while striking out four. Jones allowed the unearned run on a double in the 10th.

Akron took a 2-1 lead in the eighth inning on Jose Tena's double that scored Connor Kokx. He then scored on a Harrisburg error when pitcher Malvin Pena threw away a comeback hit by Johnathan Rodriguez.

The two teams play game five of their 6-game series on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Canal Park.

Thursday's result: Korey Holland homers, drives in 5 to lead Ducks over Senators

The RubberDucks used two three-run innings to beat the Harrisburg Senators 6-3 at Canal Park on Thursday night.

Korey Holland hit a three-run home run in the second inning to give the Ducks a 3-1 lead. Johnathan Rodriguez hit a solo shot — his 14th homer of the year — to make it 4-2 in the sixth, when the Ducks scored three more times. Holland collected his fourth and fifth RBIs when he doubled in Micael Ramierez and Joe Naranjo to make it 6-2.

Doug Nikhazy started and went 4⅔ innings before Franco Aleman (1-0) took over and pitched 2⅓ innings without giving up a run to earn his first win with the Ducks in his second appearance in the Eastern League. Trey Benton and Davis Sharpe each pitched an inning to finish the game, with Sharpe allowing a run in the ninth.

The win was the Ducks' fourth consecutive victory and third over the Senators, making Akron 5-4 in the second half and a game up over the fourth-place Senators (4-5).

Tuesday's result: Ducks win third straight, 4-2 over Senators

A similar script to Tuesday was used as the RubberDucks jumped out to an early lead and the pitching staff made it stand up in a 4-2 victory over the Senators at Canal Park on Wednesday.

Michael Berglund started the scoring in the bottom of the third with a solo home run, his second of the year. Jose Tena followed with a double to right field to score Petey Halpin before Tena scored on Johnathan Rodriguez's triple to make it 3-0.

The Senators (35-41) cut the deficit to 3-2 in the sixth before Halpin answered in the home half with a single to plate Juan Brito.

Tanner Burns went four innings and gave up one run on four hits. He walked two, struck out three and hit a batter. Ross Carver (1-2) came on in relief for the win, tossing four innings and giving up one run but striking out five. Bradley Hanner struck out the side to lock down his fifth save with a scoreless ninth.

Tuesday's result: First inning is all Ducks need in 4-3 win

The RubberDucks did all their damage in the first inning but all four pitchers held the lead in a 4-3 series-opening win over Harrisburg at Canal Park on Tuesday.

The Ducks (38-38) strung together five hits to score four runs in the first inning and take the early lead. Petey Halpin led off with a triple and scored on a single by Jose Tena. Juan Brito followed with a double to score Angel Martinez to make it 2-0 before a balk plated Johnathan Rodriguez. Joe Naranjo finished the scoring with a single to drive in Brito.

Peyton Battenfield tossed the first three shutout innings, allowing one hit and four walks while striking out three. Matt Turner, Zach Hart (1-1) and Jordan Jones combined for the final six innings, with Jones getting his first save of the year.

Monday's result: Juan Brito's grand slam powers Ducks over SeaWolves

The visiting RubberDucks hit their first grand slam of the year, four pitchers combined for a two-hit shutout and the Ducks snapped a three-game losing streak with a 6-0 win Monday night over the Erie SeaWolves.

Juan Brito's first-inning grand slam staked Ducks starter Tommy Mace to a 4-0 lead. Mace (1-2) pitched six scoreless innings, allowing one hit, to earn his first victory with the Ducks this season. He struck out six and walked two.

Petey Halpin led off the game with a single. Angel Martinez followed with a single to left field and Johnathan Rodriguez extended his season-long 11-game hitting streak with a single to load the bases for Brito.

The Ducks upped their lead to 5-0 in the fifth when Connor Kokx doubled, went to third on a single by Halpin and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jose Tena. Rodriguez led of the sixth inning with a solo home run to right field for the game's final run.

Davis Sharpe, Mason Hickman and Bradley Hanner each pitched a scoreless inning in relief of Mace for the Ducks (37-38), who are 2-4 in the second half of the season.

Sunday's result: Dillon Dingler blasts home run to beat Ducks

RubberDucks starter Will Dion only gave up two runs in six innings but it was not enough as the Ducks lost 2-1 to the SeaWolves at UPMC Park on Sunday night.

Dion (0-1) struck out five but allowed five hits including a solo home run to Jackson High School graduate Dillon Dingler in the sixth inning.

The lone run for the Ducks (36-38) on an Angel Martinez single that scored Connor Kokx to earn a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning. Jose Tena went 3-for-4 with a walk and a double at the top of the order but the Ducks couldn't manage timely hits, stranding 11 runners on base and going 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.

Saturday's result: Stanley gives up three home runs in 6-3 loss

The SeaWolves drilled three home runs off RubberDucks starter Hunter Stanley to win 6-3 at UPMC Park on Saturday night.

Stanley (3-6) allowed six runs on 10 hits and a walk in four innings for the loss. Conversely, the Ducks (36-37) offense mustered just five hits with four coming off the bats of Jose Tena and Johnathan Rodriguez. Angel Martinez added a triple and scored two runs and Tena provided the third. Juan Brito drove in two on two sacrifice flies.

Friday's result: Ducks, SeaWolves split doubleheader

The RubberDucks split a doubleheader Friday night in Erie, Pa., taking the first game 1-0 in eight innings and dropping the makeup game from Wednesday's postponement 6-2. Both games were scheduled for seven innings.

The only run in the first game came in the eighth inning when Petey Halpin's sacrifice fly to left scored Korey Holland. The run batted in was Halpin's 21st. It allowed reliever Davis Sharpe to pick up the victory and improve to 5-3. Sharpe came into the game in relief of starter Doug Nikhazy in the sixth inning. Sharpe allowed no runs, no hits, one walk and struck out five. In Nikhazy's five innings, he only allowed three hits and no runs on five walks and six strikeouts.

In the second game, the SeaWolves scored a pair of runs in each of the third, fifth and sixth innings to post the 6-2 win. Erie hit four solo home runs off Akron pitching to account for four of their seven hits. Aaron Bracho hit a solo shot for the Ducks in the four inning, his eighth this year.

All three Akron pitchers allowed a pair of runs, but the first reliever to hit the mound - Mason Hickman - suffered the loss with one inning of work in the fifth. His record dropped to 3-3.

Thursday's result: SeaWolves build early lead, cruise past Ducks

After Wednesday's postponement due to the smoke-filled air from Canadian wildfires, the RubberDucks started their holiday weekend series against the Erie SeaWolves with a 9-3 loss Thursday night. The hosts overcame Akron's brief 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning to score three runs in the bottom of the first and then five more in the second inning, building an 8-1 lead.

Ross Carver lasted 1-2/3 innings as the Ducks starter. He was tagged for seven hits and all eight runs that Erie scored in the first two innings. After Angel Martinez scored Jose Tena on a sacrifice fly to put Akron up 1-0, Erie used a pair of doubles and a fielders choice off of Carver in the bottom of the inning to take the lead.

Before Matt Turner could replace Carver with two outs in the second inning, the SeaWolves had roughed up Carver with a double, four singles, a walk and hit batter to increase their lead with five more runs.

Turner stopped the bleed by working 4-1/3 innings, giving up just one hit, no runs and walking two. Zach Hart closed out the mound work for Akron with two innings of work and allowing just one hit; a solo home run by Erie shortstop Andrew Navigato in the seventh inning.

Johnathan Rodriguez put two runs on the Akron line with a 2-run homer in the sixth inning. It was his 12th home run this season.

Sunday's result: Guardians' Quantrill pitches Ducks to win in rehab assignment

Cleveland Guardians pitcher Cal Quantrill's rehabilitation start Sunday in Akron led the RubberDucks to a 5-3 win over the Binghamton Ruble Ponies at Canal Park. Quantrill threw five scoreless innings and the Ducks scored five runs in the second inning to take the final three games of the 6-game series against the Ponies. The Ducks victory evened both squads records at 35-34.

In Quantrill's outing, he allowed three hits, a walk and struck out three. Tommy Mace threw the final four innings for Akron. Binghamton scored three times on four hits to pick up his first save this year.

In the bottom of the second inning, Johnathan Rodriguez led off the inning with a single. He moved to second on a passed ball and then scored on Aaron Bracho's single to left field. The hit extended Bracho's hitting streak to five games.

Connor Kokx followed Bracho with a walk and Joe Naranjo singled to load the bases with one out. Michael Berglund then smoked a hard line drive into deep right field that bounced over the wall for a two-run automatic double. Jose Tena then put Akron ahead 5-0 with a 2-run single into center.

After two days off, the Ducks travel to Pennsylvania to start the second half of the season with a series opener on Wednesday against Erie.

Joe Naranjo delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the 11th as the RubberDucks won 4-3 over the Rumble Ponies at Canal Park on Saturday night.

The Ducks held a 3-2 lead in the ninth before reliever Jordan Jones made his only mistake of the night, giving up a solo home run that sent the game to extra innings. Mason Hickman (3-2) ended up with the win after pitching a scoreless 11th with one strikeout.

Offensively, Petey Halpin drilled a solo shot and Angel Martinez ripped a single, a double and scored twice to lead the Ducks (34-34). Aaron Bracho added a one-run double and Juan Brito drove in one.

Friday's results: Ducks snap losing streak in doubleheader split vs. Rumble Ponies

The RubberDucks split a doubleheader Friday night at Cana Park, snapping a losing streak.

In the first of two seven-inning games, Binghamton scored a run in the top of the seventh to win 4-3 and hand the RubberDucks their fourth consecutive loss.

Bradley Hanner could not hold on to a 3-1 lead when he took over on the mound for Akron starter Hunter Stanley in the fifth inning. The Rumble Ponies scored twice in the top of the fifth and then went ahead with an unearned run in the seventh. Rowdey Jordan reached on a two-base error by left fielder Johnathan Rodriguez. Hanner threw a wild pitch to move Jordan to third and then scored an out later on a fielder choice. Hanner's record fell to 5-3.

In the second game, which was a makeup from a rain out on April 30, the Ducks were slated as the visitors and needed an extra inning to beat Binghamton 4-2. Akron tied the game 1-1 in the top of the seventh when Joe Naranjo singled up the middle to score Aaron Bracho.

Akron went ahead 4-1 with three runs in top of the eighth. Bryan Lavastida hit a 2-run single that scored Connor Kokx and Angel Martinez. Rodriguez was plated with Akron's fourth run when Bracho grounded out.

The comeback allowed Davis Sharpe to pick up the win and improve to 4-3. Sharpe threw the final two frames for Akron and gave up one run to the Ponies in the bottom of the eighth.

Thusday's game: Rumble Ponies use big second inning to beat RubberDucks

The RubberDucks dropped their third consecutive home game to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies Thursday night at Canal Park. The Ponies used a four-run second inning enroute to an 8-2 Eastern League win. Binghamton used 17 hits to post its fourth consecutive victory.

Doug Nikhazy was roughed up for eight hits and five runs in his 3-2/3 innings as the Ducks starting pitcher. Nikhazy's record fell to 2-4. Binghamton added three more runs off of Akron relievers Matt Turner and Mason Hickman.

Akron had built a 1-0 lead on Petey Halpin's 1-out sacrifice fly in the first inning. At the top of the second, the Rumble Ponies scored four times on four hits and the first of three Akron errors. In the fourth inning, Warren Saunders put Binghamton up 5-1 with a solo home run off of Nikhazy. Two outs later Rowdey Jordan chased Nikhazy from the game with a single.

Wednesday's game: Agustin Ruiz homer leads Rumble Ponies to win over RubberDucks

Agustin Ruiz smacked a two-run home run in the fourth inning to put the Rumble Ponies ahead and they never trailed again in a 4-2 win over the RubberDucks Wednesday night at Canal Park.

Aaron Bracho gave the Ducks (32-32) a 2-1 lead in the second inning with a two-run double to left field that scored Bryan Lavastida and Juan Brito, but the Ducks never scored again.

Tanner Burns (2-3) was tagged with the loss in relief, coming on in the fourth and tossing four innings. He gave up three runs on four hits and struck out seven.

Tuesday's result: Ducks stifled in 5-2 loss

A late comeback fell short as the RubberDucks fell 5-2 to the Rumble Ponies in the series opener at Canal Park on Tuesday night.

Binghamton (32-31) put up a four-run fourth inning to go up 5-0 on Ducks starter Tommy Mace (0-2). Mace allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three.

Offensively, the Ducks (32-31) could not touch starter Luis Moreno (5-2). The right-hander cruised through five no-hit innings and struck out nine with one walk being his only blemish. Angel Martinez launched a two-run home run for the Ducks in the ninth for their only runs of the game.

Sunday's results: Ducks sweep doubleheader over Fisher Cats

The visiting RubberDucks swept Sunday's doubleheader with victories of 4-2 and 5-2 over the Fisher Cats. The two wins gave Ducks manager Rouglas Odor 245 with Akron, making him the franchise record holder. The victory also gives the club a total of 2,500.

In game one, Hunter Stanley (3-5) cruised through six innings to record the win for the Ducks (32-30). He gave up two runs on five hits while walking two and striking out six. The offense scored all four runs in the second inning on a Joe Naranjo walk and two singles from Alexfri Planez and Michael Berglund.

Game two belonged to Johnathan Rodriguez, as he went 3-for-4 with two home runs, three RBIs and a stolen base. Jose Tena also went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored. Mason Hickman (2-2) took the win in relief and Bradley Hanner locked down his fourth save with two perfect inning to close it out, including four strikeouts.

Saturday's result: Ducks game at Fisher Cats rained out

The Akron RubberDucks game Saturday at the New Hampshire Fisher Cats was rained out and will be made up as part of a doubleheader of seven-inning games at 12:05 p.m. Sunday.

Friday's result: Ducks fall to Fisher Cats in rain-shortened game

After a 33-minute rain delay, the Fisher Cats were awarded a 2-0 win over the visiting RubberDucks after 7½ innings Friday night in New Hampshire.

The Fisher Cats scored both runs in the third inning off Ducks starter Doug Nikhazay. Leo Jimenez doubled to score Steward Berroa, and one out later Jimenez scored on a sacrifice fly by Orelvis Martinez.

Nikhazy (2-3) struck out 11 in the five innings. However, the Cats used two hits and two walks to score its two runs. New Hampshire finished with just three hits.

Thursday's result: Ducks split doubleheader with Fisher Cats

The RubberDucks and Fisher Cats split a doubleheader Thursday in New Hampshire, with the Fisher Cats winning the opener 9-7 and the Ducks coming back with 10 hits to win 8-3 in the nightcap, a makeup game from Wednesday.

Juan Brito led the Ducks (30-29) to victory in the nightcap, going 2-for-4 with a three-run home run. Erik Sabrowski earned the victory in relief as the only one of four Akron pitchers to not allow a run.

Jose Tena also drove in three runs with a single, a walk and two runs scored. Eight of nine hitters in the Ducks starting lineup had hits.

In the first game, New Hampshire took a 6-2 lead in the fourth inning with a three-run home run off Akron starter Tommy Mace and a two-run shot off reliever Jordan Jones. A two-run homer by Brito followed by a solo shot by Johnathan Rodriguez pulled the Ducks to within 6-5 in fifth.

Riley Tirotta then hit a two-run homer off Zach Hart (0-1) to give the Fisher Cats an 8-5 lead in the home half.

Wednesday's result: Ducks-Fisher Cats rained out

The Akron RubberDucks game Wednesday at the New Hampshire Fisher Cats was rained out and will be made up as part of doubleheader of seven-inning games at 5:05 p.m. Thursday.

Tuesday's result: Offense shows up late in 9-1 Ducks victory

The Ducks combined for eight runs in the seventh and eighth innings to break a 1-1 tie and win 9-1 in the series opener at New Hampshire on Tuesday.

Angel Martinez doubled home Connor Kokx and Jose Tena for his third RBI of the game to make it 3-1 Ducks in the top of seventh. He came around to score after Johnathan Rodriguez reached on a throwing error.

A five-run eighth really iced the game as Petey Halpin recorded a rare two-run sacrifice fly to left field. Bryan Lavastida followed with the final blow, a three-run home run to left to score Tena and Martinez.

Will Dion delivered a strong start for the Ducks (29-28), going five innings and giving up one run on two hits and a walk while striking out six.

Sunday's result: Sea Dogs hang on to defeat Ducks for split of 6-game series

Two home runs was all the Portland Sea Dogs needed Sunday afternoon for a 3-2 win over the RubberDucks and a split of the teams' six-game series in Maine.

The Ducks and Sea Dogs have split their 12 games so far this season.

Portland designated hitter Tyler Dearden led of the third inning with a solo home run off Akron starter Hunter Stanley (2-5). In the fourth inning, Stanley walked Niko Kavadas before Nathan Hickey poked a two-run homer to center to give the Sea Dogs a 3-0 lead.

Stanley allowed three runs (all earned) on four hits a walk with three strikeouts in five innings.

Connor Kokx hit a one-out single to start the Ducks' two-run fifth. Jose Tena put down a bunt that Hickey threw past first base, allowing the runners to reach second and third. Petey Halpin hit a sacrifice fly, and Angel Martínez added an RBI single to close the deficit to 3-2.

Halpin was 9-for-25 in the series with four doubles, a triple and four RBIs.

Saturday's result: Early runs push Ducks past Sea Dogs

All damage was done in the first two innings as the RubberDucks defeated the Sea Dogs 5-2 Saturday afternoon.

Petey Halpin and Juan Brito combined to go 5-for-8 with three runs and an RBI to help the Ducks (28-27) jump out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning. Catcher Michael Amditis added a solo home run, his second of the year.

The Sea Dogs (34-22) scored single runs in the second and third off Ducks starter Doug Nikhazy, but that was it all for the game. Nikhazy (2-2) went six strong innings, allowing three hits and no walks while striking out eight. Erik Sabrowski and Bradley Hanner locked down the final three innings with Hanner recording his third save of the season.

Friday's result: Ducks score four times in 10th to beat Sea Dogs

The visiting RubberDucks scored four times in the 10th inning to beat the Portland Sea Dogs 12-8 Friday night.

It was the second four-run inning of the night for the Ducks, who scored four times in the seventh inning to break a 4-4 tie. Portland then cut Akron's lead with two runs in the bottom of the seventh and tied it with two more runs in the eighth.

The Ducks (27-27) took the lead in the 10th on a wild pitch that scored Angel Martinez. Aaron Bracho singled home Bryan Lavastida to make it 10-8, and Connor Kokx followed with a ground ball to short that allowed Johnathan Rodriguez and Bracho to score for a four-run advantage.

The Ducks finished with 14 hits, with doubles by Kokx and Rodriguez the only ones for extra bases.

The late scoring surge allowed reliever Davis Sharpe (3-3) to pick up the victory. He allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts in 2½ innings.

Wednesday's result: Rodriguez, Lavastida lift Ducks over Sea Dogs

Single runs in the fifth, seventh, eighth and ninth innings allowed the RubberDucks to even their season record at 26-26 with a 9-6 win in Portland, Maine, Wednesday night.

Johnathan Rodriguez drove in the go-ahead run the hard way in the fifth inning to put Akron up 6-5. Jose Tena doubled followed by a Bryan Lavastida walk to put runners on first and second with no outs. Then the Maine skies opened and an one hour and one minute rain delay followed.

When play resumed, Dylan Spacke replaced SeaDogs starter Ryan Zeferjahn on the mound and walked Juan Brito to load the bases. Rodriguez was hit by the fourth pitch to him from Spacke to score Tena.

Aaron Bracho drew another bases-loaded walk to score Lavastida in the seventh put Akron ahead 7-5.

In the eighth, Rodriguez, who was 2-for-3 with four RBIs, doubled in Lavastida to give Akron an 8-6 lead. The Ducks added another run in the ninth on Angel Martinez's single to left that scored Alexfri Planez. Rodriguez connected on a two-run home run in the second inning. It was his seventh dinger of the season.

Randy Labaut (3-0) earned the win in relief with 2⅔ innings of work beginning in the fourth inning. Bradley Hanner picked up his second save of the year with a scoreless ninth inning after Cade Smith was promoted to Columbus on Tuesday.

Tuesday's result: Power and speed lift Sea Dogs over Ducks

The longball pushed the Sea Dogs past the visiting RubberDucks on Tuesday night, using two home runs to take the series opener 6-2 at Hadlock Field.

Already holding a 2-0 lead, Portland (33-19) got a three-run home run from Alex Binelas off Ducks starter Hunter Stanley to make it 5-0 and knock Stanley out of the game. The following inning, Chase Meidroth drilled a solo home run to make it 6-2.

Portland also stole six bases on catcher Bryan Lavastida and were not caught once.

Petey Halpin did all he could for the Ducks (25-26), going 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI, accounting for half the team's hits and runs. Alexfri Planez slapped a single and scored and Johnathan Rodriguez crossed the plate for the other run.

Sunday's result: Rodriguez, Brito propel Ducks to 3-1 victory

Johnathan Rodriguez and Juan Brito starred for the second straight game with each singling home a run in the eighth inning to break a 1-1 tie and propel the Ducks to a 3-1 win at Canal Park on Sunday afternoon.

It was the only hits of the game for the pair but they got them when it mattered. Until that point, the lone run came off a Jose Tena line drive in the sixth inning that plated Angel Martinez. Tena finished 3-for-4 with a run.

Doug Nikhazy delivered five solid inning in his start, allowing one run on three hits while walking two and striking out six. Cade Smith (1-0) took the win after locking down the final two innings and striking out three.

Saturday's result: Ducks rout Yard Goats with 15 runs on 22 hits

An offensive explosion led the RubberDucks to a dominant 15-1 rout of the Yard Goats at Canal Park on Saturday night.

Seven hitters in the starting lineup had multiple hits and the Ducks (24-25) recorded 22 for the game. Juan Brito continued his hot streak, going 4-for-5 in the leadoff spot with a double, a home run, three runs scored and four RBIs. Jose Tena and Johnathan Rodriguez each went 4-for-6 with a run scored and two RBIs, with Tena recording a double, a triple and a stolen base.

It wasn't just the offense that was clicking as starting pitcher Jack Leftwich (4-4) tossed six scoreless, no-hit innings, walking one and striking out four.

Friday's result: Ducks beat Yard Goats on walk-off hit-by-pitch

Gabriel Rodriguez was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the RubberDucks a 4-3 win over the Hartford Yard Goats at Canal Park on Friday night.

With the Ducks trailing 3-2, Juan Brito led off the seventh with a walk and came around to score the tying run on an error, a hit and a sacrifice fly by Joe Naranjo. Michael Petersen was intentionally walked to load the bases, setting up Rodriguez's game-winning hit-by-pitch to score Jose Tena.

Rodriguez finished 3-for-5, accounting for a third of Akron's nine hits.

Bradley Hanner (5-2) pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the win.

Thursday's result: Yard Goats rally to beat Ducks in 10 innings

Grant Lavigne's single to left field scored Niko Deolati in the top of the 10th inning and the Hartford Yard Goats beat the RubberDucks 4-3 at Canal Park on Thursday night.

Hartford scored twice in the eighth inning to tie the score and send it into extra innings.

Davis Sharpe (2-3) pitched the last final three innings for the Ducks, giving up one unearned run to suffer a blown save (his fourth) and the loss.

The Ducks scored single runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings before losing their 3-1 lead in the eighth. Johnathan Rodriguez had a single and a double — Akron's lone extra-base hit — as the Ducks outhit the Yard Goats 9-7.

Wednesday's result: Early runs push Ducks past Yard Goats

The RubberDucks scored all their runs in the first inning, but that was all they needed in a 5-2 victory over the Yard Goats Wednesday night at Canal Park.

Jose Tena drilled a three-run home run to put the Ducks (22-24) up 3-0 after three batters. That was followed by an RBI double by Joe Naranjo and a sacrifice fly by Connor Kokx to score Korey Holland and make it 5-0.

Starting pitcher Hunter Stanley (2-3) breezed through 6⅓ scoreless innings for the win, allowing five hits, one walk and striking out four. The Yard Goats did score two runs late, forcing Cade Smith to come on and shut the door for the final out and his 13th save of the year.

Tuesday's result: Ducks rally falls short in loss to Yard Goats

The Yard Goats jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and never looked back en route to a 7-5 win over the RubberDucks in the series opener at Canal Park on Tuesday night.

The Ducks (21-24) tried to mount a rally in the ninth, scoring a run and loading the bases, but Juan Brito struck out to end the game.

Petey Halpin did his job in the leadoff spot, going 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored. Connor Kokx went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored.

Doug Nikhazy (1-2) was tagged with the loss, giving up four runs on seven hits and two walks.

Sunday's result: Lavastida lifts Ducks to win in series finale

Bryan Lavastida drove in Akron's first run and the game-winning run as the RubberDucks snapped a 2-game skid with Sunday night's 5-4 win over the Baysox. Bowie took a 4-0 lead in the fourth inning, setting up a Lavastida double that scored Juan Brito to make the score 4-1.

In the bottom of the fifth inning Akron used four hits and two hits to score four times and take the 1-run lead. With the score tied 4-4, Lavastida hit a ground ball single to left field that scored Brito again.

Jack Leftwich earned the win in relief of Guardians pitcher Cody Morris who was making a rehab start for the Ducks. Morris threw 1-2/3 scoreless innings of no-hit ball. Morris walked one and struck out one before Leftwich took over.

Leftwich gave up six hits, the four Bowie runs and no walks in his 3-2/3 innings of work. He struck out three and improved his record to 3-4. Mason Hickman and Randy Labaut held the lead for Leftwich with hitless and scoreless work before Cade Smith took over with two outs in the eighth inning. Smith struck out four and did not surrender a hit, walk or run to pick up his 12th save this season.

Justin Armbruester threw five scoreless innings to lower his ERA to 1.40 while T.T. Bowens hit his third home run of the season to lead the Bowie Baysox to a 3-1 win over the RubberDucks Saturday at Canal Park.

Armbruester (3-1) and Ducks starter Tanner Burns (2-2) each pitched three scoreless innings. In the fourth inning, Bowie broke the scoring drought on a Burns balk that scored Billy Cook. Bowens hit a two-run homer to left to make it 3-0 in the sixth.

The Ducks (20-23), who had six hits in the game, pushed across a run in the ninth inning when Joe Naranjo doubled to center field to score Juan Brito.

Thursday's result: Ducks break up no-hitter in sixth, rally to beat Baysox

Johnathan Rodriguez and Julian Escobedo hit back-to-back home runs in the sixth inning to rally the RubberDucks to a 4-1 win over the Bowie Baysox Thursday at Canal Park.

The Ducks (20-21) were no-hit by Baysox starter Chayce McDermott until Bryan Lavastida grounded a two-out single to right field in the sixth. Rodriguez followed with a line-drive home run to left to put the Ducks on top 2-1. That was the last batter faced by McDermott (3-3), who was effectively wild with six walks and five strikeouts in 5⅔ innings.

Escobedo then greeted Baysox reliever Kade Strowd with a home run to right to make it 3-1, and the Ducks added another run on a one-out single by Angel Martinez in the seventh.

Ducks starter Hunter Stanley (1-3) was just as effective as McDermott, allowing one run on just two hits with two walks and three strikeouts in seven innings. Randy Labaut finished with two scoreless innings for his first save.

Wednesday's result: Cody Morris sharp in rehab inning, but Ducks blanked by Baysox

The Ducks offense was stagnant and never got going in a 9-0 loss to the Baysox Wednesday night at Canal Park.

Guardians pitcher Cody Morris got the start on a rehab assignment, breezing through one perfect inning with one strikeout on 11 pitches. Doug Nikhazy (1-1) followed and took the loss, giving up five runs on seven hits with 10 strikeouts and one walk in 5⅔ innings.

The Ducks (19-21) only managed six hits with one going for extra bases. Angel Martinez and Johnathan Rodriguez each had two hits. Nine runners were left on base and two errors were made in the field leading to the rout.

Tuesday's result: Home runs cost Ducks in series-opening loss to Baysox

The long ball helped the Baysox win the series opener at Canal Park, where they launched three home runs en route to a 7-2 victory Tuesday afternoon.

Jack Leftwich (2-4) gave up four runs on six hits, including a two-run homer, in taking the loss for the Ducks (19-20). The righty walked two, uncorked two wild pitches and struck out six. His ERA rose to 8.86.

Johnathan Rodriguez provided all the offense for the Ducks with a two-run home run in the second inning. That scored Bryan Lavastida, who reached base on one of his three walks.

Sunday's results: Bullpen costs Ducks for second game in a row

The Flying Squirrels got to the RubberDucks bullpen for three runs in the eighth inning to steal a comeback win in the series finale on Sunday afternoon.

After Michael Berglund scored on an error to put the Ducks up 3-2 in the eighth, relievers Zach Hart (0-1) and Trey Benton allowed three solo home runs to lose the lead.

Johnathan Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run for the Ducks (19-19). Shortstop Jose Tena walked twice and scored a run.

Saturday's result: Richmond Flying Squirrels score twice late to beat Ducks

Richmond scored twice in the seventh to break a 4-4 tie and snap the RubberDucks' two-game win streak with a 6-4 win Saturday in Richmond, Va.

After the Flying Squirrels scored on a single to right field to make it 5-4, Marco Luciano drew a bases-loaded walk off Ducks reliever Bradley Hanner for an insurance run.

The Ducks (20-17) took a 2-0 lead on Bryan Lavastida's RBI-double in the first inning and Jose Tena's sacrifice fly in the third. That evaporated in the bottom of the third when Vaun Brown hit a three-run home run off Akron starter Jaime Arias.

The Ducks tied it in the fourth on solo home runs by Johnathan Rodriguez (his third) and Gabriel Rodriguez (his fourth).

Ducks reliever Mason Hickman (0-2) issued two of his three walks in the seventh inning to set the stage for the Flying Squirrels' game-winning rally. After Wade Meckler singled home Korey Holland for the go-ahead run, Hanner replaced Hickman and hit the first batter he faced before walking in a run.

Friday's result: Ducks rally to beat Flying Squirrels 11-9

Persistence paid off the RubberDucks Friday afternoon in Richmond, Va., where they rallied four times before Gabriel Rodriguez launched a go-ahead, three-run homer in the ninth inning to give the Ducks a 11-9 win.

With Richmond leading 8-7 in the ninth, left-hander Juan Sanchez walked Bryan Lavastida with one out. Korey Holland then singled to center field, chasing Sanchez. Against left-hander Raymond Burgos, a former Cleveland minor leaguer, Julian Escobedo grounded a game-tying RBI single to center field.

On the next pitch, Rodríguez drilled his third home run of the season to left field to give the Ducks their first lead in the game at 11-8.

Ducks starter Hunter Stanley allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and two walks with five strikeouts 4⅓ innings.

Riley Mahan hit two home runs for the Flying Squirrels, a two-run blast in the seventh and a solo shot in the ninth before Ducks closer Cade Smith finished off his minor league-leading 11th save of the season and 19th consecutive save overall.

Thursday's result: Doug Nikhazy fans nine, Ducks ground Flying Squirrels

Left-hander Doug Nikhazy struck out a season-high nine batters in five innings to earn his first Eastern League win of the season as the RubberDucks downed host Richmond 10-2 Thursday.

Angel Martínez had a season-high four RBIs, with a two-run double in each of the Ducks’ two four-run innings. Akron took a 2-1 tie in the fourth inning with three consecutive singles. Julian Escobedo added a RBI double and two batters latter Martinez lined a two-out, two-run double down the left field line to make it 5-1.

The Ducks (18-17), who scored four more runs in the sixth, finished with 13 hits.

Nikhazy (1-0) allowed one unearned run on a hit, two walks and an error. David Sharpe held the Flying Squirrels to a run on two hits and no walks in three innings of relief, and Trey Benton threw a scoreless seventh inning to close out the win.

Wednesday's result: Ducks fall behind early in loss to Richmond Flying Squirrels

The Flying Squirrels scored nine runs in the first four innings en route to an 11-4 win over the visiting RubberDucks Wednesday night.

Ducks starter Jack Leftwich (2-3) was roughed up for eight runs on eight hits and one walk over 3⅔ innings. He struck out three but gave up two home runs.

Petey Halpin, Jose Tena, Aaron Bracho and Connor Kokx all had two hits for the Ducks (17-17). Bracho smacked a solo home run and scored twice while Kokx ripped a double and came around to score.

Tuesday's result: Tanner Burns pitches Ducks over Richmond Flying Squirrels

A good start was key for the RubberDucks as the series opener was called after five innings, resulting in a 2-1 win at Richmond on Tuesday night.

Ducks starter Tanner Burns (2-1) held the Flying Squirrels (17-16) to one run on two hits and three walks with two strikeouts in five innings.

Johnathan Rodriguez got the scoring started for the Ducks (17-16), ripping a line drive single to score Petey Halpin in the first inning. After the Squirrels answered in the second inning, Korey Holland drove home Bryan Lavastida with another liner to provide the game-winning run.

Sunday's result: Bracho blasts tie-breaking home run in Ducks' 4-2 win over Curve

Aaron Bracho hit a go-ahead home run in the sixth inning, and four RubberDucks pitchers combined to hold host Altoona to four hits in a 4-2 win Sunday.

The Ducks won the six-games series 4-2.

Bracho's sixth home run of the season led off the the sixth inning and broke 1-1 tie. Curve pitcher Justin Meis then hit Korey Holland with a pitch and walked Joe Naranjo. Braeden Ogle replaced Meis on the mound and promptly walked both Connor Kokx and Petey Halpin to force in a run to put the Ducks in front 3-1.

Bradley Hanner (4-2) came on in relief of starter Ducks Joey Cantillo, who pitched 4⅔ innings. Mason Hickman held the lead with a scoreless inning in relief of Hanner, and Cade Smith pitched the eighth and ninth innings to earn a two-inning save, his 10th save of the season.

The Ducks travel to Richmond, Va., to open a six-game series with the Flying Squirrels on Tuesday.

Saturday's result: Jackson grad Kyle Nicolas pitches Curve over Ducks

Right-hander Kyle Nicolas, a Jackson High School graduate, held the RubberDucks to one run in five innings as the Curve downed the visiting Ducks 5-4 Saturday in Altoona.

The RubberDucks trailed 5-4 entering the ninth inning and were down to their final strike before Joe Naranjo singled to right field off left-handed reliever Tyler Samaniego. After two wild pitches and a walk, Naranjo was at third base, with center fielder Connor Kokx at first base. A third pitch eluded catcher Henry Davis, but he recovered in time to throw to Samaniego at home plate, where the pitcher tagged Naranjo to end the game.

Samaniego got his second save of the year as Nicolas improved to 2-4.

Ducks starter Jaime Arias took the loss, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts in four innings. Jordan Jones followed Arias on the mound and gave up three more runs to the Curve, including a solo home run by Lolo Sanchez that made it 5-3.

All 10 of Akron's hits were singles, while Matt Frazier hit three doubles among the Curve's 10 hits.

Friday's results: Curve snaps Ducks' four-game winning streak with walk-off win

Matt Gorski snapped the RubberDucks' four-game winning streak with a walk-off hit in the 10th inning to give the Curve a 2-1 home win Friday night.

Although the offense never got much going, the Ducks got a strong start from right-hander Hunter Stanley, who went a career-long 6⅓ innings, giving up one run on seven hits and a walk. He struck out four in the longest start by a RubberDucks pitcher this season.

Julian Escobedo plated the lone run for the Ducks (15-15), doubling home Connor Kokx in the eighth inning.

Thursday's results: Ducks rally to beat Altoona Curve for fourth straight win

All nine batters in the RubberDucks lineup had a hit Thursday night in Altoona, Pa., where Akron recorded 13 hits in a 4-2 win over the Curve.

Starter Doug Nikhazy and reliever Jack Leftwich each allowed one run in his four innings of work as the Ducks won their fourth consecutive game. Cade Smith pitched a scoreless seventh inning to pickup save No. 9.

With the score tied 2-2 entering the ninth inning, Connor Kokx had his third hit with a leadoff single to right field against left-hander Tyler Samaniego. Kokx advanced on Julian Escobedo’s sacrifice and José Tena’s groundout. Down 0-2 in the count, Angel Martínez lined an RBI double to left-center field.

Then with Martínez running, Bryan Lavastida grounded deep to shortstop and beat the throw to first base for a single, allowing Martínez to score and make it 4-2. Escobedo, Kokx and Tena all hit doubles in the game.

The Ducks erased a 1-0 deficit with two runs in the fifth. Joe Naranjo hit an infield single and Kokx doubled down the third base line before Tena's one-out double to right center field scored Naranjo and Kokx to give Akron a 2-1 lead.

Altoona's Liover Peguero tied the score 2-2 with a second home run, a solo shot in the bottom of the inning off Leftwich.

Wednesday's result: Ducks pull away for second straight win over Altoona Curve

The visiting RubberDucks scored four runs in the fourth inning to break a 1-1 tie en route to their second consecutive win, 7-2 over the Curve Wednesday night in in Altoona, Pa.

Two batters after Bryan Lavastida singled in Jose Tena to break the tie, Gabriel Rodriguez singled with the bases loaded to score two more runs. Korey Holland scored the Ducks' fifth run on a single to left by Michael Berglund.

After the Curve scored a run in the bottom of the inning, the Ducks added two more runs in the sixth to pull away again and make a winner of starter Tanner Burns (1-1), who allowed two runs on two hits (both home runs) and three walks with five strikeouts in five innings.

Rodriguez, who went 2-for-4 with four RBIs, hit a two-run home run in the sixth to close out Akron's scoring. Lavastida added three singles and two RBIs for the Ducks, who had 13 hits off four Curve pitchers.

Tuesday's results: Ducks score seven runs in 11th to beat Altoona Curve

Akron scored seven runs in the 11th inning to beat the Curve 12-6 in a weeklong series opener in Altoona, Pa., on Tuesday.

The RubberDucks collected for 12 hits, but just two were for extra bases, and four Ducks manned the mound. Bradley Hanner (3-2) pitched the 10th and 11th innings for the win in relief.

Altoona scored single runs in the home half of the first, third, fourth, fifth and seventh innings. The Ducks had a 5-4 lead in the seventh when Altoona catcher Henry Davis hit his second home run of the game, a solo shot off Akron reliever Shane McCarthy to tie the score at 5-5.

Jose Tena's sacrifice fly to left scored Joe Naranjo to give the Ducks a 6-5 lead. The Ducks added on six more runs, with Aaron Bracho's infield single plating two runs and Korey Holland's two-run home run to right to score Bracho. It was Holland's second home run of the season.

Angel Martinez, who went 2-for-5, had Akron's only other extra-base hit, a double in the third inning.

Both squads left nine runners on base. Tahnaj Thomas (2-1), the seventh pitcher used by the the Curve, pitched the 11th inning and was tagged for five hits and all seven runs (six earned).

Sunday's result: Ducks storm back late to capture series finale

Johnathan Rodriguez drove a double to deep center field that scored Bryan Lavastida in the seventh inning to complete a comeback from a 4-1 deficit to steal a 5-4 win at Canal Park on Sunday afternoon.

With the Ducks (12-14) trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Korey Holland launched a three-run home run to tie the game and set up the Rodriguez game-winner. Holland went 3-for-3 with the homer, a triple and a walk. Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI while Aaron Bracho doubled, homered and scored two runs.

Davis Sharpe (2-1) got the win in relief, tossing 2⅔ innings and giving up one run on three hits. He walked two and struck out three. Cade Smith locked down his eighth save with a clean ninth inning including one strikeout.

Saturday's result: Ducks rally falls short in 10-7 loss to Sea Dogs

The RubberDucks' Johnathan Rodriguez hit a three-run home run in the ninth but Portland held on Saturday night at Canal Park to remain atop the Eastern League's Northeast division with a 10-7 win.

The Sea Dogs scored three runs in the first inning and added two more in both the third and fourth to build a 7-1 lead heading into the sixth inning.

The home run to right center was the second of the season for Rodriguez.

The Sea Dogs roughed up five Akron pitchers with 17 hits and five walks while scoring 10 earned runs. Ducks starter Hunter Stanley (0-3) lasted just one-third of an inning

Portland starter Wyatt Olds went three innings but did not get the win. He didn't allow a hit but gave up one run on three walks and three hit batters. Jacob Webb (2-1) earned the victory in relief of Olds with two innings of work.

May 5 results: Ducks no-hit by Sea Dogs, but earn doubleheader split

After being no-hit in an 8-0 loss in the first game, the RubberDucks prevailed 2-1 in the nightcap to split a doubleheader Friday night with the Portland Sea Dogs at Canal Park.

It was the first time Akron had been no-hit since Aug. 22, 2009, by Erie.

Red Sox prospect Chih-Jung Liu pitched all seven innings and struck out six. Connor Kokx was the only Akron batter to reach base, coaxing two walks off Liu to extend his on-base streak to 10 games.

The SeaWolves knocked Akron starter Jack Leftwich (1-2) from the game after surrendering four runs in two-thirds of an inning.

The Ducks finally got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning of the second game when Portland third baseman Matthew Long threw away an chopper by Aaron Bracho to score two runs and put the Ducks on top 2-1. That snapped Akron's 21-inning scoring drought.

Doug Nikhazy started for the Ducks and worked the first four innings, giving up Portland's only run while allowing two hits and three walks while striking out three. Davis Sharpe followed Nikhazy with a scoreless inning before Cade Smith pitched the sixth and seventh innings to earn his seventh save.

May 3 results: Ducks blank Sea Dogs 6-0 behind dominant Cantillo

A four-run sixth inning broke the game open and five RubberDucks pitchers blanked the visiting Sea Dogs 6-0 in the series opener at Canal Park on Wednesday night.

With the Ducks already holding a 2-0 lead, Johnathan Rodriguez drove in the first run of the sixth inning with a single before three other Ducks (10-11) were walked with the bases loaded to push the lead to 6-0.

Aaron Bracho started the scoring with a solo home run in the second inning. Angel Martinez tripled in Bracho in the fifth inning for the other run. Martinez was thrown out at home trying for an inside-the-park home run.

Joey Cantillo (1-0) was dominant, cruising through five shutout innings while allowing just one hit and recording 13 of his 15 outs via strikeout. Zach Hart, Mason Hickman, Randy Labaut and Bradley Hanner combined for six strikeouts over the next four innings to preserve the win.

Apr. 30 result: Ducks-Rumble Ponies game rained out

Sunday's game in Binghamton, N.Y., between the Rumble Ponies and the Akron RubberDucks was postponed due to rain. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader when the Ponies visit Akron June 20-25. Details will be announced.

The Ducks have dropped three consecutive games and return to action against Portland at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday at Canal Park.

Apr. 29 result: Ducks lose 6-4 to Rumble Ponies on walk-off 11th-inning home run

Binghamton right fielder Tanner Murphy hit a walk-off, two-run home run in the 11th inning to beat the visiting RubberDucks 6-4 Saturday afternoon.

The Ducks (9-11) built a 3-0 lead through five innings on solo home runs by Angel Martinez and Johnathan Rodriguez and a sacrifice fly by Petey Halpin.

Rowdey Jordan doubled in two runs and Dariel Gomez singled home another for the Rumble Ponies (10-9) to tie the score in the sixth.

It stayed tied until the 10th when Halpin hit another sacrifice fly to plate Connor Kokx. However, Binghamton matched the run in the home half before Murphy's heroics in the 11th.

Mason Hickman (0-1) was saddled with the loss, recording just one out in the 11th before giving up the game-winning home run.

Apr. 28 result: Reigning Cy Young Award winner shuts down Ducks

The RubberDucks were shut out on two hits by New York Mets rehabbing right-hander Justin Verlander for 4⅔ innings Friday in a 6-1 loss at the Binghamton Rumble Ponies on Friday afternoon.

Things didn't get any easier for the Ducks once Verlander left the game. They managed just one run against three Binghamton relievers.

Verlander won the American League Cy Young Award last season with the Houston Astros before signing this past offseason with the Mets. He went 18-4 with a 1.75 ERA in 28 starts last season to win his third AL Cy Young. He then helped the Astros win the World Series.

Akron's hits off Verlander came from Johnathan Rodríguez and Mike Amditis. They each singled, in the second and third innings, respectively. Gabriel Rodríguez drew a walk in the fifth against the future Hall of Famer. Verlander struck out six.

Apr. 27 results: Ducks split doubleheader at Binghamton

Two RBI singles by third baseman Gabriel Rodríguez had two RBI singles and center fielder Petey Halpin's two-run home run led Akron to a 5-2 win in Game 1. Binghamton rallied to win Game 2 4-3 on designated hitter Mateo Gil’s game-winning single in the eighth.

Wednesday's RubberDucks game at Binghamton was postponed due to inclement weather. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader with the Rumble Ponies on Thursday. Both games will be seven innings.

Apr. 25 result: Ducks fall 7-5 in series opener

Shane McCarthy was tagged for six runs in 1⅓ innings of relief as the RubberDucks dropped their series opener 7-5 at Binghamton on Tuesday afternoon.

Tied 1-1 after a solid four-inning start from Ducks starter Tanner Burns, McCarthy (1-1) gave up one run in the fifth and five runs in the sixth. Trailing 7-1, the Ducks (8-8) immediately answered with four runs in the top of the seventh but the deficit was too much to overcome.

Michael Berglund singled home Julian Escobedo before Angel Martinez drove in Gabriel Rodriguez with a sacrifice fly. Two more errors by the Rumble Ponies (7-8) plated Berglund and Connor Kokx.

Apr. 23 results: Senators sweep Ducks in Sunday doubleheader

RubberDucks hitters struggled all day Sunday as the Harrisburg Senators swept a doubleheader with 3-0 and 4-1 wins to close out the series at Canal Park.

One run on eight hits is all the Ducks (8-7) could manage in 14 innings. The lone run came on an RBI single by Marcos Gonzalez to score Johnathan Rodriguez in the second inning of game two. Gonzalez went 4-for-6 in the doubleheader with two doubles.

Hunter Stanley (0-2) was tagged with the loss in game one, firing 5⅓ innings and giving up two runs on six hits and one walk. Joey Cantillo delivered a solid start in game two, tossing 4⅓ innings with one unearned run. He struck out three and walked two.

Apr. 22 result: Senators rally past Ducks

The Harrisburg Senators snapped a three-game losing streak Saturday by beating the RubberDucks 7-4 at Canal Park. Harrisburg scored five runs in the top of the ninth inning after trailing 4-2. Frankie Sostado's grand slam put Harrisburg up 6-4 and Jose Sanchez singled in a run to cap the scoring.

Brad Hanner blew the save situation for Akron. After Cade Smith opened the ninth by walking Yasel Antuna, Hanner came on, walked a batter and allowed a single to Trey Harris to load the bases. Tostado followed with his second home run of the season with a blast to right field.

Hanner (2-2) was tagged with the loss. Sam Hentges on a rehab assignment from the Guardians pitched a scoreless fifth inning.

The Ducks scored first when Bryan Lavastida singled in Petey Halpin. They built a 3-0 lead with two runs in the second inning and went up 4-0 onJoe Naranjo's sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Two singles by the Senators in the eighth cut Akron's lead to 4-2 before their five-run ninth.

Apr. 21 result: Ducks-Senators game postponed by rain

The Akron RubberDucks and Harrisburg Senators game on Friday was postponed due to weather and will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Sunday, with the first game set to start at 1:05 p.m.

Saturday's game between the RubberDucks and Senators will be played as scheduled at 6:05 p.m.

Apr. 20 result: Ducks rally to win with three runs in 10th

The RubberDucks scored three runs in the bottom of the 10th inning to beat the Senators 6-5 at Canal Park on Thursday night.

Bryan Lavastida capped the rally with a one-out double to right field to score Petey Halpin and Angel Martinez and give the Ducks their fourth consecutive victory.

Lavastida also doubled, drove in two runs and walked to lead Akron to its eighth win in 12 games. Halpin also singled and had two RBIs.

Trey Benton (1-0) earned the win in the relief, allowing two runs (one earned) on no hits and two walks in one inning.

Harrisburg tied the scored with three runs in the eighth and took the lead with two in the 10th, setting the stage for the Ducks rally. Marcos Gonzalez opened the inning with a single to put runners on the corners. Halpin followed with a single to center to make it 5-4 and, two batters later, Lavastida lined a double down the right field line to bring home Halpin and Martinez.

Apr. 19 result: Ducks score three runs in 8th to beat Senators 5-3

A three-run eighth inning led the RubberDucks to a comeback win Wednesday at Canal Park, beating the Harrisburg Senators 5-3. Bryan Lavastida tied the score 3-3 with a single up the middle in the eighth, moving runners to second and third. Johnathan Rodriguez followed with a single to left field that scored Angle Martinez and Lavastida to give Akron a 5-3 lead.

That set up Bradley Hanner to come out of the bullpen to pitch the top of the ninth inning and earn his first save of the season. It allowed Akron reliever Jack Leftwich to earn the win in relief. Leftwich threw three scoreless innings of no-hit ball while striking out four.

Lavastida's game-tying hit was his second single of the game. He finished with three runs driven in. Joe Naranjo also collected a pair of hits for the Ducks (7-4) including a double. Akron outhit Harrisburg 8-5.

The Senators (5-6) scored all three of their runs off Akron starter Doug Nikhazy who went 2⅔ innings giving up just one hit, but walking seven. Cleveland Guardians pitcher Sam Hentges tossed a scoreless rehab inning in relief as well.

Apr. 18 result: Ducks build 6-0 lead, hold off Senators for 7-6 win

The bats came alive and helped the RubberDucks overcome three errors and capture a series-opening 7-6 home win over Harrisburg at Canal Park on Tuesday night.

The Ducks (6-4) got to work early, scoring a run in the first inning on a Joe Naranjo single that scored Petey Halpin to go ahead 1-0. After gaining the lead, the Ducks managed at least one run in every inning except the third and seventh. They ended the night with 13 hits, led by three-hit efforts from Halpin and Naranjo. Halpin went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs, an RBI and a walk. Naranjo launched his first home run of the year in the fifth inning.

Even with a big 6-0 lead heading into the seventh inning, the Senators (5-5) exploded for six runs of their own off reliever Trey Benton to tie the game. Julian Escobedo's double to score Halpin in the eighth was the game-winning hit.

Shane McCarthy (1-0) and Cade Smith (5) locked down the final 2⅓ innings with four strikeouts.

Apr. 16 result: Delgado's home run in 10th inning lifts Ducks to 4-2 win over Baysox

Raynel Delgado's two-run home run in the top of the 10th inning stood up as the RubberDucks closed out a six-game series in Bowie, Md., with a 4-2 win. Akron took 4-of-6 games in the series.

The Baysox had chance to win the game in the ninth inning. With the score tied 2-2, Bowie had the bases loaded with one out against Ducks reliever Bradley Hanner (2-1). Designated hitter Heston Kjerstad lined to center fielder Petey Halpin and, when pinch runner Donta’ Williams stumbled leaving third base, Halpin threw to catcher Michael Berglund to tag Williams for the final out of the inning.

In the 10th, with two outs and a runner still at second base, Delgado hit an opposite-field home run — his first of the season — off right-hander Nolan Hoffman.

Cade Smith set the Baysox down in order in the bottom of the inning to earn his fourth save.

Hanner and Smith followed starter Joey Cantillo, Randy Labaut and Davis Sharpe. Cantillo hit the first batter he faced — Kjerstad — and allowed him to score after a stolen base, wild pitch and a throwing error by Akron shortstop Angel Martinez. Cantillo escaped the inning and held Bowie scoreless through the fourth, allowing only a hit and two walks, while recording five strikeouts.

After Labaut worked three scoreless innings, Sharpe inherited a lead in the eighth inning but allowed two hits — including the game-tying RBI single by Bowie's Cesar Prieto — and one walk with three strikeouts, setting the stage for Delgado.

The RubberDucks return to Canal Park to play Harrisburg at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday.

Apr. 15 result: Ducks limited to just three hits in loss to Baysox

The offense struggled all night and the starter got pulled after just four innings as the RubberDucks fell 6-2 Saturday at Bowie.

Ducks leadoff hitter Petey Halpin accounted for both runs when he drilled a two-run home run in the eighth inning to cut the Baysox lead in half at 4-2. He singled earlier in the game and Johnathan Rodriguez added a single as the Ducks (4-4) managed just three hits for the game.

Starting pitcher Hunter Stanley (0-1) labored through four innings, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks. He also uncorked a wild pitch and gave up a two-run homer.

Apr. 14 result: Aaron Bracho's two home runs, five RBIs power Ducks over Baysox

Aaron Brachohad his first career two-homer game and tied a career high with five RBIs Friday night to lead the visiting RubberDucks to a 7-5 win over the Bowie Baysox in the fourth game of a six-game series at Prince George’s Stadium.

Akron trailed 2-0 and had only one hit entering the fourth inning against rehabbing Baltimore Orioles right-hander Kyle Bradish. After Julian Escobedo extended his four-game hitting streak with a leadoff single to center, Bryan Lavastida grounded to shortstop, but a dropped throw at second base allowed Escobedo to reach third base. A one-out walk to Gabriel Rodríguezloaded the bases, Bradish threw a wild pitch to score a run, and Bracho drilled a three-run home run to right field to give the Ducks a 4-2 lead.

The RubberDucks expanded their lead in the sixth inning against right-hander Houston Roth when Rodríguez hit a two-out triple to center field and Bracho pounded his second home run to make it 6-2. Michael Berglund led off the seventh inning with a homer to right field for his first hit of the season and a 7-2 lead.

Right-hander Bradley Hanner threw two scoreless innings in relief to win for his first win. Two pitchers later, Cade Smith threw a scoreless ninth around a walk to earn his third save.

Apr. 13 result: Gavin Williams earns first win, helps Ducks beat Baysox

Gavin Williams held host Bowie to one run in five innings to earn his first win of the season as the RubberDucks beat the Baysox 3-2 Thursday night.

Williams struck out three and only walked one. Randy Labaut worked two scoreless innings in relief of Williams, followed by Trey Benton in the eighth. Benton gave up a home run as Bowie (3-3) cut Akron's lead to a run. Davis Sharpe followed Benton and, despite giving up two hits, worked a scoreless ninth inning to earn his first save this year.

Julian Escobedo homered in his second consecutive game and collected three of the Ducks' five hits.

Escobedo also sparked the game-tying rally in the fourth inning with a leadoff double to right field against Baysox starter Justin Armbruester. Bryan Lavastida’s flyout sent Escobedo to third base, and Johnathan Rodríguez hit a game-tying single for his first RBI of the season.

Escobedo's solo home run leading off the eighth inning against right-hander Connor Gillispie put Akron up 3-1.

Apr. 12 result: Ducks offense sputters in loss at Bowie

Julian Escobedo tried to do it all for the RubberDucks, but it was not enough as the host Baysox evened the series with a 2-1 win Wednesday night.

Escobedo drilled his third double and first home run of the season to provide the lone run for Akron (2-3), which only managed five hits all night.

Jack Leftwich took the tough-luck loss, giving up two runs on four hits while striking out one in three innings. Doug Nikhazy and Jordan Jones shut down Bowie (3-2) the rest of the way, combining for five shutout innings with five strikeouts and just one hit allowed.

Apr. 11 result: Ducks turn it on late to take opener at Bowie

Four late runs helped the RubberDucks steal a 7-4 series-opening road victory at Prince George's Stadium on Tuesday night.

After Bryan Lavastida drove in Petey Halpin in the fifth to tie the score 3-3, the Ducks pushed across two runs in the seventh and two more in the ninth to secure the win. Angel Martinez launched a two-run home run in the seventh before Lavastida and Michael Amditis each singled home a run in the final inning to provide insurance.

Amditis also drilled a two-run homer and finished with three RBIs. Julian Escobedo went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three runs scored. Martinez went 3-for-5, including the home run.

Brett Daniels earned the win after tossing 1⅔ innings of perfect relief with two strikeouts. Cade Smith locked down his second save, going 1⅓ innings without allowing a run and striking out three for the Ducks (2-2).

Apr. 8 result: Ducks rally twice but SeaWolves prevail in 11 innings

Fireworks were delayed Saturday night at Canal Park where Erie needed 11 innings to down the Akron RubberDucks 3-2.

After a 1-1 tie at the end of nine innings, Erie scored in the top of the 10th and Akron answered in the bottom half to make it 2-2. Josh Crouch then opened the 11th with a single to left to score the runner placed at second base for the game-winning run.

Joey Cantillo started for the Ducks and struck out four while allowing just one unearned run in three innings. Davis Sharpe followed with a scoreless inning before Hunter Stanley took over and was dominant in just his fifth professional appearance, pitching five scoreless innings while striking out six.

Trey Benton pitched the 10th for Akron, allowing one unearned run, and Bradley Hanner allowed the run in the 11th to take the loss.

Connor Kokx lined an infield single off the third base bag to score Gabriel Rodriguez and tie the score 1-1 in the fifth inning. The RubberDucks tied the score in the 10th when Rodriguez came home on a throwing error by Crouch.

Apr. 7 result: Aaron Bracho's 2-run homer helps Ducks rally past SeaWolves

Aaron Bracho's two-run home run highlighted a three-run sixth inning as the RubberDucks rallied for a 6-4 win over visiting Erie Friday night at Canal Park.

Bracho also drew two of Akron's 10 walks. The Ducks (1-1), who trailed 4-2 before their sixth-inning outburst, also collected six hits and had two batters hit by a pitch.

Randy Labaut earned the victory and Cade Smith pitched a scoreless and hitless ninth inning for his first save.

April 6 result: Ducks blanked by SeaWolves in season opener

The Akron RubberDucks opened the 2023 regular season Thursday night with a 5-0 loss to the Erie SeaWolves at Canal Park.

Despite the loss, RubberDucks starter Gavin Williams dazzled. The right-hander, who didn't figure in the decision, allowed just two hits, striking out nine and walking one in 4⅓ innings. He struck out the side in the third.

Erie broke a scoreless tie with a run in the sixth inning and then blew the game open with a four-run seventh.

Angel Martinez collected two of the Ducks' four hits.
