Roxbury senior Jake Morgan, Chatham take home NJAC golf titles
MOUNT OLIVE — Jake Morgan and Owen Bedell agreed on one thing after the Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference golf championships on Thursday afternoon.
It was a great sendoff for all the seniors.
Morgan, a Roxbury senior, shot a 1-under 71 on the blue and white courses at Flanders Valley to claim the overall title. It was his second significant championship this season, after winning the North 1, Group 3 sectional at 5-under.
Morgan hit the ball well off the tee, and had 26 putts on Thursday.
"I didn't play well in our last match, so I wanted to go out on a good one," said Morgan, who signed a National Letter of Intent with the University of Pittsburgh. "I'm happy with how I played. I'm happy with how I ended my Roxbury career."
Randolph sophomore Achal Agnihotri and Bedell, a Chatham senior, both shot 1-over 73s. After a three-putt bogey on his last hole, Bedell wound up third on a match of cards.
But his score helped the Cougars win the overall team title by 11 strokes over Mendham. All four Chatham golfers – Bedell, freshman Roger Rice, junior Will Desmarais and senior Dylan Wickham – each earned individual medals.
Delbarton, the two-time defending NJAC champion and reigning Morris County Tournament champion, wound up third.

"It's the same group we brought to Counties. They just played a lot better today," said Cougars coach Todd Ervin, who is likely to retire from coaching golf after this season.
