ROUNDUP: Walters, Schelsky and Neill make all-state teams

Mar. 23—Braden Walters of Terre Haute North, Treigh Schelsky of Parke Heritage and Blake Neill of Bloomfield have been named to all-state high school basketball teams by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.

The IBCA picked a Senior Supreme 15 team and an Underclass Supreme 15 team, then had an all-state team for seniors and another for underclassmen. Walters made the senior team, Schelsky and Neill the underclass team.

Earning honorable-mention honors on the senior team were Zay Baker of Terre Haute South and Zeke Tanoos of West Vigo.

Honorable-mention picks on the underclass team were Cooper Bock of Sullivan, Andy Colvin of Dugger Union, Ethan Edwards of Clay City, Brayden Goff of Northview, Sam Gooch of Greencastle, Renn Harper of Parke Heritage and Paul Oliver of Linton.

College softball

—Sycamore series wiped out — At Cedar Falls, Iowa, cold temperatures and inclement weather forced the cancellation of a Missouri Valley Conference series between Indiana State and host Northern Iowa.

ISU, 13-15 and 2-3 in conference play, hosts Belmont for a three-game MVC series beginning Friday.

—Pomeroy winning streak reaches 12 — At St. Mary of the Woods, the SMWC softball team ran its winning streak to 12 games with a River States Conference sweep of Brescia on Saturday by scores of 10-4 and 8-0 in five innings.

Jasey Conn led the Pomeroys in the first game with a 3-for-3 performance that included three runs plus an RBI, while Nevaeh Pender was 2 for 3 with two RBI and Lyric Krause was also 2 for 3. Emily Fitzwater was winning pitcher in relief.

Marin Jacobs pitched the second-game shutout while Conn, Krause and Jaleigh Crawford were all 2 for 3 and Crawford and Jasmine Kinser each drove in two runs.

SMWC, 16-8 overall and 9-3 in the RSC, hosts St. Xavier in a doubleheader Wednesday.

On Friday, the Pomeroys also swept a conference doubleheader from Oakland City, both games with 6-2 final scores.

Fitzwater was winning pitcher in the first game with Krause driving in two runs and Conn scoring twice. Jacobs pitched the second game while Kinzer was 2 for 3 with a two-run homer, Pender 2 for 3 and Conn had a homer and a sacrifice fly. Hannah Boardman drove in a run in each game.

Men's volleyball

—Lourdes 3, SMWC 0 — At St. Mary of the Woods, the 13th-ranked visitors won 25-21, 25-18, 25-20 on Saturday afternoon.

Marko Zolnjan had 15 kills and Ethan Martins 31 assists for the Pomeroys, now 13-12. They play Tuesday at Midway.

On Friday, Lourdes also won three close sets in downing the Pomeroys 26-24, 25-20, 25-19. Zolnjan had 16 kills, Martins 32 assists and Brycen Yadao 15 digs.

Prep track

—Rogers wins — Drew Rogers of Paris won the Illinois state indoor high jump recently with a jump of 6-feet-7.5.

—Sullivan 16, North Daviess 9 — At Elnora, the visiting Golden Arrows scored in every inning of Friday night's win.

Casey Shorter was 4 for 5 with two doubles to lead the attack, while Kensley Wiltermood was 3 for 5 with two runs; Jaylynn Hobbs 2 for 4 with two doubles and three RBI; Mylee Vandeventer 2 for 4 with three runs; Aphtyn Earley 2 for 5 with a double, a homer, two runs and three RBI; Lexi Grindstaff 2 for 5 with a double, two runs and two RBI; and winning pitcher Kate Ridgway 1 for 4 with a double.

Prep baseball

—Maroons win three — Robinson's baseball team improved to 6-2 for the season by beating Flora 2-1 on Friday and taking two games Saturday at the Windsor-Stew-Stras Round Robin.

Derek Steward, Brayden Turner and Marcus Nantz combined for a four-hitter on the mound Friday while Judson Pinkston, A.J. Knoblett, Brysen Legg, Julian Parker and Elijah Robball had hits.

Graysen Brown pitched a five-innng complete game Saturday in an 11-1 win over Villa Grove, with Knoblett going 3 for 4 with three runs; Pinkston 2 for 3 with three runs; Steward 2 for 3; and Parker 2 for 4 with a double, two runs and two RBI.

In a 10-3 win over the host team Saturday, Knoblett was 3 for 3 with two runs; Pinkston 3 for 5 with two runs; Gunner Hoalt 2 for 2; Parker 2 for 4; Legg 1 for 3 with three RBI; and Payton Skaggs 1 for 1 with two RBI.

Robinson plays Tuesday at Edwards County.
