Roundup: Vanoy leads Newark Catholic boys golf to Licking Valley Invitational title

The Newark Catholic boys golf team put five players in the 70s at Virtues Golf Club on Tuesday to win the Licking Valley Invitational.

Max Vanoy shot 75 to lead the Green Wave, who totaled 308, just one stroke ahead of runner-up Jonathan Alder. Brian Luft added 76, Bobby Kieber 78 and Brogan Sullivan and Nathan Riggleman 79 apiece.

Newark’s Mitch Bolte shot 74 to take third overall. Watkins Memorial’s Christian Cave added 78, Johnstown’s Braeden Archibald 80, Newark’s Grady Fields and Heath’s Keenan Kelly 84 apiece and Watkins’ Maddox Tanzillo and Kaden Ross 86 apiece.

BOYS SOCCER

Newark ties

Daniel Hamilton denied a penalty kick in Newark’s scoreless tie at Zanesville.

Hamilton made 12 saves for the Wildcats (0-1-1), who host Watkins Memorial on Thursday.

GIRLS SOCCER

Valley wins

Avery Williams’ hat trick Monday led Licking Valley to a 5-0 victory in the season opener against visiting Centennial.

Bella Reynard and Allison Thoman also scored for the Panthers, and Williams and Kenly Muzykowski each had an assist. Emilee Heaney and Dalin Dennis split time in goal.

GIRLS TENNIS

Newark blanks Westland

Andy Hupp and Lacey Layne and Dia Bailey and Maria Arnold did not lose a game in sweeping doubles matches for Newark in a 5-0 victory at Westland.

Addi Taylert, 6-2, 6-0, Vanessa Bennett, 6-0, 6-0, and Becca Helber, 6-0, 6-0, each won singles matches for the Wildcats (4-0).
