Roundup: Unioto takes first at Wellston Golden Rocket Invitational

Wellston Golden Rocket Invitational: Unioto cleaned house at the Golden Rocket Invitational in Wellston on Saturday. Both its boys and girls teams took first place, with the boys scoring 223 points and the girls scoring 174 points. Piketon's boys team also competed in the invitational, taking second place with 127 points.

BASEBALL

Zane Trace 2, Logan 1: The Pioneers pounded out 10 hits and scored two runs in the top of the second inning to pull out a win over Logan while on the road Saturday. Landen Jarrell went 2-for-4 with an RBI, Gunnar McCullough picked up two hits and a run, and Brooks Hodson added on two hits. Rece Allen went 1-for-2 with two walks and an RBI as well.

Hodson also got the win on the mound for Zane Trace. Hodson pitched four innings, allowed two hits and an earned run and struck out a pair of batters. Josh Young recorded a save after pitching three hitless innings and striking out three.

Waverly 8, Gallia Academy 1: The Tigers batted around and routed the Blue Devils in a nonconference matchup on Saturday. Alex Boles got the win on the mound, pitching five innings and allowing just two hits while striking out two batters.

LT Jordan led the Tigers on offense after going 3-for-4 with a double, three runs and an RBI. Jase Hurd batted in four runs and scored once after picking up two hits, and Boles went 1-for-3 with a run. Ben Nichols batted in a run, Peyton Harris went 1-for-3 and Quinton Hurd scored a run. Jamison Morton and Creed Smith each picked up a hit and a run.

Worthington Kilbourne 10, Chillicothe 6: The Cavaliers fell to the Wolves in a nonconference bout on Saturday despite a solid offensive showing. Mason Brown contributed two triples and a home run in the loss, batting in three runs and scoring three times. Mason Siberell picked up three hits, including a double, and scored a run. Coen Butler added on two hits, including a double, and also batted in a run.

Trent Wade worked five innings on the mound for the Cavaliers, giving up four earned runs on five hits. Jack Oyer provided an inning of relief, allowing two earned runs on two hits.

SOFTBALL

Westfall swept in doubleheader: The Mustangs suffered a pair of nonconference losses on Saturday after dropping two games to Sheridan. They were defeated in both games by scores of 6-1. Delana Landefeld batted in the Mustangs' lone run in game one after hitting a home run, and she ended the game 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run. Makayla Cook went 1-for-3 with a double, while Olivia Dumm and Anna Snyder each picked up a hit.

Madison Kearney went 1-for-3 in game two, and she batted in the lone run for the Mustangs. Ava Heath also went 1-for-3, and she also scored a run. Landefeld tacked on the final hit for the Mustangs in game two after going 1-for-3.
