ROUNDUP: Thunderbirds win big, Dugger falls to Bloomfield

Feb. 29—The most one-sided game of Wednesday night's high school boys basketball action was likely North Central's 85-33 win over Lighthouse Christian in the Class A White River Valley Sectional, regardless of the final score.

The Thunderbirds opened a 38-4 lead after a quarter, and by that time their starters had already been rested for the night after playing less than seven minutes each.

Jace Hooper scored 19 points and Camdyn Agee added 13 for North Central, now 11-12. Keaton Jones scored 12 for Lighthouse, which finished 6-17.

In other boys basketball sectional action Wednesday:

—Bloomfield 56, Dugger Union 37 — Also at Switz City, the Cardinals had a 35-7 lead at halftime in the other game at the WRV Sectional.

Blake Neill finished with 15 points, Lance Workman 13 and Hunter Abner 10 for Bloomfield. Andy Colvin had a game-high 24 for the Bulldogs, who finished 5-17.

Bloomfield, 12-13, and North Central play the second semifinal game Friday at WRV, followed by the opener between Clay City and Shakamak.

—Greencastle 71, South Putnam 45 — At Greencastle, the host Tiger Cubs moved into the semifinals of the Class 2A Greencastle Sectional.

Now 15-9, Greencastle plays Parke Heritage on Friday, following the opener between Southmont and North Putnam. South Putnam finished 7-16.

Elsewhere Wednesday, Eastern Greene beat North Knox 69-58 at the Class 2A Paoli Sectional, while South Knox topped Mitchell 60-40. Eastern and South Knox will meet at 7:30 p.m. Friday, following the 6 p.m. Sullivan-Linton game.

Girls basketball

—Maroons earn All-State honors — Robinson High School's 5-foot-6 senior guard Marisa Zane was named to the Illinois Media All-State second team, which was announced Thursday.

Zane's teammate, 5-9 senior guard-forward Katelyn Jones, received All-State Honorable Mention status.

College volleyball

—Woods wins two — The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's volleyball team improved to 9-4 on the season with a pair of 3-set wins at Talladega College on Monday.

In the opener, the Pomeroys hit an impressive .241 as a team to pick up a 25-23, 25-20, 28-26 victory.

In the nightcap, SMWC improved the hitting percentage to .362 in a 26-24, 25-21, 25-19 victory.

Equestrian

—Woods takes regional — Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College took home High Point honors in three different shows this weekend, highlighted by bringing home the team Zone 7 Regional 1 Western Championship.

SMWC captured High Point Team honors in the first show and Reserve High Point Team honors in the second show that preceded the Western Regional. Megan Manlief earned the High Point Rider ribbon in show one, and Madison Raiser won the title in show two.

SMWC had 11 qualified rides and seven individuals will advance to the semifinals at Albion on March 23-24.
