Roundup: Reynard leads Licking Valley girls soccer to victory against Heath
Bella Reynard’s hat trick Wednesday fueled the Licking Valley girls soccer team in a 6-0 victory against visiting Heath to open Licking County League play.
Sophia Long added two goals, Avery Williams a goal and two assists and Mady Sodergren an assist for the Panthers (2-0, 1-0). Emilee Heaney recorded the shutout in goal.
Sophia Yanka made 10 saves for the Bulldogs (0-1, 0-1).
Granville cruises
Ivy Miller notched a goal and five assists in Granville’s 10-0 victory against visiting Johnstown (0-1, 0-1) in LCL play.
Lyndy Van Horn, Ava Labocki, Anna Walker and Anna Nolan each scored two goals with Hope Mahl also scoring and Allison Tarone adding two assists. Sydney Lauffer and Malana Sturgeon each recorded a save for the Blue Aces (1-0, 1-0).
Watkins wins on road
Jaylyn Thornton totaled two goals and three assists, sparking Watkins Memorial in a 6-0 victory at Zanesville in LCL play.
Kiley Jones-Barrera scored a team-high three goals, and Zoey Thompson added a goal and Madison Skeese and Malena Dewhurst an assist apiece for the Warriors (2-0, 1-0). Rilyn Warner made one save.
BOYS SOCCER
Lakewood edges Logan Elm
Four scored a goal each, lifting Lakewood to a 4-3 victory against Logan Elm.
Luke Pierce, Alexander Maas, Cadence McNichols and Matthew Keller each scored for the Lancers (1-1). Kyle Frye had two assists.
Johnstown falls
Keaton Curnutte scored for Johnstown (0-1) in a 3-1 loss to visiting Mount Vernon.
GIRLS TENNIS
Newark sweeps
Vanessa Bennett picked up a victory at No. 2 singles, 7-6, 6-2, helping Newark complete a 5-0 victory at Cambridge.
Addi Taylert, 6-4, 6-1, and Becca Helber, 6-0, 6-0, also won singles matches. Lacey Layne and Andy Hupp, 6-1, 6-0, and Maria Arnold and Dia Bailey, 6-0, 6-0, won doubles matches for the unbeaten Wildcats (5-0).
Watkins wins
Bella Workman and Eva Barbour won a tiebreaker, 2-6, 6-3, 1-0 at No. 2 doubles to give Watkins Memorial a 5-0 victory against Mount Vernon.
Nora Grennan, 6-1, 6-0, Kaiya Minier, 6-1, 6-0, and Payton Zerkle, 6-2, 6-0, won singles matches. Claudia Schaar and Terah Severance, 6-0, 6-0, won at No. 1 doubles for the Warriors.
BOYS GOLF
Bolte leads Newark
Mitch Bolte fired an even-par 72 at Darby Creek for Newark during the second Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division tournament of the season.
Grady Fields added an 83, Ty Gilbert 85 and Ryan Wamer 91 for the Wildcats, who took runner-up for the second time.
GIRLS GOLF
Clarke fires 40
Ella Clarke shot 40 at Moundbuilders Country Club, leading Granville to a victory against Newark Catholic, 167-181.
Hannah Huggins and Avery Staten each shot 42 and Olivia Jones and Ainsley Laidlaw-Smith 43 apiece for the balanced Blue Aces. Sam Spearman shot 43, Caylee Lattimer 44 and Natalie Holsky and Reagan James 47 apiece for the Green Wave.
