Roundup: Portsmouth girls lacrosse posts second shutout with 17-0 win over Merrimack

PORTSMOUTH – Eight players scored a goal and the Portsmouth High School girls lacrosse team posted its second shutout of the season on Monday with a 17-0 Division I win over Merrimack.

Avery Ruhnke led Portsmouth with three goals and three assists, while Charlotte Marston and Morgan Ruhnke also scored three goals.

Annie Parker (two goals, two assists), Lily Patterson (two goals), Ginger Vinciguerra (goal), Anya Bake (goal), Addie Deslie (goal) and Lexi Stanley (assist) all figured in the scoring.

Portsmouth goalie Sage Bussiere had four saves.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Bishop Guertin 17 

Dover 11 

NASHUA - Abbie Kozlowski and Julia Rowley each had three goals and one assist for Dover in this Division I loss.

Payton Denning and Lily Hunt both had two goals for the Green Wave, and Rylen Gray had a goal and two assists.

St. Thomas Aquinas 10 

Derryfield 9 

MANCHESTER - Megan Leahy scored five goals, leading St. Thomas Aquinas to this Division III win.

Cat Vetter added two goals for the Saints, while Charlotte De Tolla, Kensley Harris and Annita Parmelee all had one.

STA goalie Gracie Pettinato had eight saves.

Merrimack Valley 16 

Spaulding 3 

ROCHESTER - Sophia Olsen had two goals and Payton Boumel had one for Spaulding in this Division II loss.

Spaulding goalie Izzy Orrell had 20 saves.

Marshwood 17 

York 10 

YORK, Maine - Sarah Theriault’s eight goals and two assists led Marshwood to this Class B win.

Izzy Young added four goals and two assists for the Hawks, while Maddy Poitras (three goals),

Maeve Long (goal), Hadley Prewitt (goal), Lindley Gori (assist) and Elle McDaniel (assist) all figured in the Marshwood (6-2) scoring.

Marshwood goalie Lauren Walker had seven saves,

For York (5-4), Sophia Luchette had three goals, and Ava Fontaine and Abigail Armalie both had two, and Anna Doughty, Grace Clayton, and Emma Joyce all had one,

HUDSON - Maia Delano’s five goals and one assist led Winnacunnet to this Division II win.

Sky Mace added three goals and one assist for the Warriors, while Ella Waddell, Caelyn Ross, and Sarah Rademacher all had two goals, and Tegan Rooney, Shea Graham, Norah Willcox and Izzie Needham all had one.

PLAISTOW - Grace Royal had three goals, and Elsa Pueschel, Sophie Royal, Waverly Oake-Libow and Keria Ferris all had one for Oyster River in this Division II loss.

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Tommy Demeroto had four goals, and Kevin Cougler had three goals and one assist for Marshwood in this Class B loss.

Milo Closson had two goals and one assist for the Hawks, while Declan Fitzgerald, Jackson Hamilton, and Chase Turcotte all had one goal.

BASEBALL

LONDONDERRY – The Lancers scored four unearned runs in the fifth inning and improved to 14-1 with this Division I win.

Matthew Minckler had two hits, including a home run and two RBIs for Portsmouth (10-5). Teammates Jake Carlisle and Gar Hindle both had two hits, and Owen Moore had an RBI. Boden Driscoll allowed 11 hits and eight runs, four earned, over five innings, taking the loss.

The Clippers got two runs back in the sixth inning but left the bases loaded and then stranded two more runners in the seventh. The Clippers also left the bases loaded in the second inning and left a total of nine in the game.

Winnacunnet 15 

Goffstown 0 

MANCHESTER – Senior Jason Pinsonnault’s no-hit bid was broken up by Adam Lafond to lead off the fifth in this five-inning Division I win for Winnacunnet (11-4).

Pinsonnault struck out seven and allowed just one hit, walking two.

The Warriors scored five runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings, handing Goffstown just its third loss of the season.

Ethan Nowak, Miles Pratt, Evan Gaffney, and Brady Thompson all had two hits for Winnacunnet, while Jake Fredericks blasted a home run to lead off the second inning. Nowak had a team-high three RBIs, while Fredericks, Gaffney and Jones Vicinus all had two.

Fredericks and Gaffney both scored three runs, and Pat Desmond scored twice.

York 8 

Gray-New Gloucester 4 

GRAY, Maine – Bradley Carr had two hits and two RBIs, leading York to this Class B South win.

The Wildcats broke up a 3-3 tie with a four-run fifth inning. Conor Fell, Benjamin Brown, Brody Gullison, John Jacobsohn, Jack Joyce, and Jake Fogg all had a hit in the win.

Brown struck out eight and scattered six hits over five innings, earning the win.

Prospect Mountain 5 

Somersworth 1 

ALTON - Simon Grandmaison walked, stole second and scored on Logan Perrault’s RBI double, accounting for the lone Somersworth run in this Division III loss.

Grandmaison allowed four hits and one earned run over six-plus innings, striking out eight.

Grandmaison, Lukas Kelly, and Will Sneddon also had a hit for the Hilltoppers.

Waynflete/NYA 7  

Traip Academy 2 

KITTERY, Maine - Brady Parsons and Caleb French each had two hits for the Rangers, while Reid Alessi, Conor McPherson, and Alec Webster all had one in this Class C South loss.

Traip’s Zach Stacy struck out six over 4 1/3 innings.

Pinkerton 12 

Spaulding 1 

ROCHESTER – Dawson Calero had the lone RBI for the Red Raiders in this Division I loss.

Hollis-Brookline 11

St. Thomas Aquinas 9

DOVER - The Cavaliers scored all 11 of their runs in the final four innings, including four in the fifth and five and held on for this Division II win.

Hollis-Brookline is now 10-3, while St. Thomas is 10-2.

Charlie Covert had four hits and four RBIs for the Saints, while Timmy Avery had three hits, and Devon Paquette, Michael Skowron and Cade Murphy all had two.

Dover 7

Keene 5

KEENE - Dover scored two runs in the second and fifth innings, and three in the fourth for this Division I win.

Andrew Rapoza, Alex Cook, Will Angers and Nate MacGregor all had two hits for the Green Wave, with Angers and MacGregor both driving in three. Dover is now 7-7, and Keene is 6-9.

SOFTBALL

GRAY, Maine - Maddy Raymond allowed three hits and struck out 15 as York improved to 10-1 with this Class B South win.

Junior Ava Brent led the Wildcats with two hits, while McKayla Kortes, Emily Estes, Carlie Welch, Hannah Cleary and Bella Santini all got a hit.

Oyster River 5

KINGSTON - Addy Veno allowed five hits and struck out 10, hurling Oyster River to this Division II win.

The Bobcats scored four runs in the fifth inning; Kate Michaud had a two-run triple, Aliza Parks’ single drove home Lorelye LeClair, and Maddy Veno laced an RBI single.

LeClair led Oyster River with two hits.

Newmarket 4 

Pittsfield 1 

NEWMARKET - Kierra Souphakhot allowed two hits and struck out 15, earning this Division IV win.

Gia Tilton tripled and had two RBIs for the Mules, while Isabella Mendez had a hit and scored two runs, and Emma Surina, Hannah Chesley, Souphakhot, and Karina Jones all had one hit.

KITTERY, Maine - Liz Rondeau had an RBI double, and Julie Leydon had an RBI single for Traip in this Class C South game.

GORHAM, Maine - Emily Hester had one hit and two RBIs for Marshwood in this Class A South loss.

Jadyn Eastman, Lindsay Bennett and Piper Catanese all had one hit for the Hawks.

In doubles, Jundi and Cook (No. 1), Porter and Edwards (No. 2) and White and Clara Daw (No. 3) all won 8-1.

In doubles, Gibson and Maggie Farwell won 9-7 at No. 1, Demarest and Schaier won 9-8 at No. 2, and Megan Zehetner and Rose Goldsmith won 8-6 at No. 3.

YORK, Maine - Madigan Murphy (No. 1, 6-0, 6-0), Arty Krebs (No. 2, 6-1, 6-2) and Riley Barron (No. 3, 6-3, 6-4 ) all won in single for York in this Class B South match.

In doubles, Rowan Holmes and Fabi Crespo won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1, and Lilly Leonhard and Hayden Cummings won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2.

DERRY - Maddy Gagnon and Stella Mitropoulos, at No. 1 doubles, earned Spaulding’s only win in this Division I match, 8-4.

HAMPTON – Junior Murphy Wall (six kills, two aces), James Baker (four kills, five aces), Bryce Molnar (24 assists, five aces) led Winnacunnet in this Division I win.
