ROUNDUP: Pomeroys swept by St. Xavier

Mar. 27—Visiting St. Xavier ended the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods softball winning streak Wednesday by sweeping a doubleheader 3-1 and 4-3.

Jaleigh Crawford was 2 for 3 and scored the only run for the Pomeroys in the first game. Lyric Krause was 2 for 2 with two RBI in the second game.

Now 16-10, SMWC plays at Point Park on Friday. St. Xavier is 12-8.

College soccer

—Kiernicki gets another job — Saint Mary-of-the-Woods announced Wednesday that Ronald Kiernicki, already the director of soccer and women's head coach, is also now the head coach of the Pomeroy men's team.

He replaces Brady Cole, who left to pursue other opportunities.

College volleyball

—Saint Mary-of-the-Woods 3, Midway 0 — At Midway, Ky., the visiting Pomeroys survived a close second set to record a 25-12, 27-25, 25-18 win Tuesday.

Marko Zolnjan had 13 kills and two aces and Christian Green added 10 kills for SMWC. Ethan Martins had 33 assists and Brycen Yadao 11 digs.

Now 14-12, the Pomeroy men are at Lawrence Tech (Mich.) for matches Friday and Saturday.

Prep softball

—Sullivan 23, Parke Heritage 5 — At Rockville, the visiting Golden Arrows unleashed a 22-hit attack Tuesday.

Aphtyn Earley led Sullivan by going 4 for 4 with a homer, three runs and four RBI. Mylee Vandeventer was 3 for 3 with three runs; Addie Fosdick 2 fo 3 with a double, a homer, two runs and three RBI; Kate Ridgway 2 for 2 with a triple and two runs; Calli Stearley and Rachel Eslinger both 2 for 3 with two runs; Emmarie Earley 2 for 3; Lexi Grindstaff 1 for 1 with a homer and two runs; Jaylynn Hobbs 1 for 2 with a double; Kensley Wiltermood 1 for 2 with two runs; and Kate Alsman 1 for 3 with a double.

For the Wolves, Taya Sturmer was 1 for 2 with a double and Carly Newnum 1 for 2 with two runs.

—Riverton Parke 15, Lafayette Central Catholic 0 — At Lafayette, the visiting Panthers took a run-rule win Wednesday.

Prep baseball

—Lafayette Central Catholic 11, Riverton Parke 3 — At Mecca, the Panthers fell to 1-2 for the season after playing Class A's top-ranked team Wednesday.

—Edwards County 2, Robinson 0 — At Albion, Ill., the hosts scored twice in the first inning and held on.

Losing pitcher Julian Parker had a double for the Maroons, now 6-3, while Payton Skaggs, Derek Steward and Gunner Hoalt had singles. Robinson plays Thursday at OPH.

Boys tennis

—Effingham St. Anthony 5, Robinson 4 — At Robinson, Ill., the visiting Bulldogs won two of three doubles matches.

Golf

—Rea Park Seniors — Player registration for the Rea Park Wednesday Senior league are 9 to 11 a.m. April 10 and April 17 at Rea Park.

Membership is $25 for the year for players 55 and older. The "rust remover" scramble is 9 a.m. April 24, with league play starting May 1.
