Roundup: Payne leads strong showing for Northridge boys golf

Ethan Payne fired a 39 on Wednesday at The Links at Echo Springs, leading the Northridge boys golf team to a victory against Grandview Heights, 167-200.

Tate Elliott added a 41, Anthony Davis 42 and Ty Smith 45 for the Vikings.

Newark takes third

Mitch Bolte, Grady Fields and Ty Gilbert each shot 81 at Turnberry for Newark during the final Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division competition of the season.

The Wildcats finished third in the tournament and third overall.

GIRLS GOLF

French fires 37

Lexi French shot 37 at Moundbuilders to lead Lakewood in a tie against Newark Catholic, 175-175.

Avery Thompson followed at 38 for the Lancers, and Sam Spearman shot 41, Natalie Holsky 42 and Caylee Lattimer 43 for the Green Wave, who won on the fifth-score tiebreaker. Lauren Griffith added a 47 for Lakewood, and NC’s Leah Moberg 49, Brooke Parkinson 50 and Sadie Eagle 51 were next.

James leads Watkins

Gracie James shot 72 at Mill Creek for Watkins Memorial to place third individually in the Worthington Christian Invitational.

Jacy Severance added a 93 for the Warriors.

GIRLS SOCCER

Granville beats Lakewood

Lyndy Van Horn was one of 11 players with a single goal, and she added three assists for Granville in an 11-1 victory at Lakewood in Licking County League play.

Allison Tarone, Ayla Cook, Ivy Miller, Anna Walker, Alana Snyder, Hope Mahl, Ava Labocki, Audrey Wurm, Anna Nolan and Vivien Long also scored for the Blue Aces (6-1-1, 5-0). Sydney Lauffer made one save.

Jaylie Maas scored for the Lancers (1-6, 0-4).

Watkins blanks Valley

Kiley Jones-Barrera racked up four goals for Watkins Memorial in a 7-0 victory against visiting Licking Valley in LCL play.

Keira McKittrick added two goals and Jaylyn Thornton one, and Kenzey Jones-Barrera had a team-high two assists and Thornton, Ella Perry and Zoey Thompson one each for the Warriors (6-1-2, 3-1). Madison Skeese made three saves and Rilyn Warner one.

Emilee Heaney and Dalin Dennis made four saves apiece for the Panthers (5-3-2, 2-2-1).

Northridge wins on road

Ruby Cermak’s two goals led Northridge to a 3-0 victory at North Union.

Summer Strout also scored, and Evangeline Stein and Lily Hill added an assist apiece. Ava Kercher earned the shutout for the Vikings (5-2-1), who won their fifth consecutive match.

Heights wins at home

Ellie Wright and Marisol Arent combined for five saves for Licking Heights in a 6-0 victory against visiting Zanesville (2-5, 1-3) in LCL play.

Emma French piled up five goals and an assist, and Savanna Cronin added a goal and an assist for the Hornets (7-3, 5-0), who raised more than $1,400 for epilepsy awareness.

Johnstown beats Heath

Cameron Goddard’s four goals led Johnstown to a 10-0 victory at Heath (0-8, 0-5) in LCL play.

Kylee Wade and Madison McKee added two goals apiece, Cassidy Miller and Reese Lions one goal apiece and Josie Vida and Payton Schneider a team-high two assists apiece. Brittin Steffan made three saves for the Johnnies (3-4-1, 2-2).

GIRLS TENNIS

Newark sweeps Cambridge

Andy Hupp and Lydia Sears won at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, 6-4, to complete Newark’s 5-0 victory against visiting Cambridge.

Dia Bailey and Maria Arnold, 6-2, 6-0, also won a doubles match. Addi Taylert, 6-0, 6-1, Vanessa Bennett, 6-0, 6-0, and Becca Helber, 6-0, 6-0, won singles matches for the Wildcats (9-3).

Watkins falls

Nora Grennan picked up a victory at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-4, during a 4-1 loss at Gahanna.

Granville wins

Abby Riley and Audrey Stankunas won singles matches Tuesday in Granville’s 3-2 victory against Teays Valley.

Sadie Landry and Hannah Bishop added a doubles win for the Blue Aces.
