ROUNDUP: Local baseball men up for HOF honors

Oct. 5—The Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association has nominated 13 men to be voted on by IHSBCA members for the 2024 Hall of Fame Class.

Included among seven nominated coaches are Kyle Kraemer of Terre Haute South and Tim Terry of South Vermillion.

Other coaches nominated are Brian Jennings, Doug Jennett, Joe Decker, Randy Roberts and Dave Ginder. Jennings, who formerly coached at Griffith, is also a freelance broadcaster and will be the play-by-play radio announcer for the Indiana State game this Saturday.

Nominated player/contributors include former Terre Haute major-leaguers Josh Phegley and A.J. Reed and former Indiana State major-leaguer Wallace Johnson. Others are Bryan Bullington, Clayton Richard and Dave Taylor.

Women's soccer

—Indiana State 0, Illinois-Chicago 0 — At Memorial Stadium, the Sycamores and Flames battled to a Missouri Valley Conference draw Thursday.

ISU is now 1-5-7, 0-3-2 in the MVC.

Girls soccer

—West Vigo 6, Owen Valley 0 — At Monrovia, the Vikings won their semifinal match at the Class 2A Monrovia Sectional on Thursday.

West Vigo plays the host Bulldogs at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Boys soccer

Wednesday

—Knights, Tiger Cubs advance — At Brazil, Northview and Greencastle won semifinal matches Wednesday in the Class 2A Northview Sectional.

Northview beat Edgewood 3-2 to improve to 8-8 for the season, while Greencastle downed South Vermillion 2-0.

The championship match is 2 p.m. Saturday.

Prep volleyball

—Northview 3, West Vigo 0 — At Brazil, senior classes from both schools were honored as the Knights won 25-12, 25-4, 25-17 in a Western Indiana Conference match Wednesday.

—Linton 3, Mitchell 0 — At Linton, the host Miners stretched their winning streak to 20 in a row heading into sectional play with a 25-15, 25-14, 25-17 nonconference victory Wednesday.

—Sullivan 3, Cloverdale 0— At Sullivan, the host Golden Arrows improved to 18-8 with a 25-6, 25-6, 25-6 Western Indiana Conference win over the 0-22 Clovers on Wednesday.

Wednesday

—Linton 3, Terre Haute North 0 — At Linton, the host Miners avenged an earlier loss in a nonconference match.

—Seedings set — Seedings for singles and doubles have been established for the Little Illini Conference tournament coming up Saturday at Paris.
