Roundup: Heath volleyball outlasts Granville

Ysa Barcelona and Ansley Harbage combined to distribute 36 assists to a balanced attack Thursday in the Heath volleyball team’s victory against visiting Granville (4-2, 2-1), 25-23, 19-25, 26-24, 25-20, in Licking County League play.

Kinley Kaminsky totaled 15 kills and four blocks, Kyndall Spicer 10 kills, Lila Nader and Logan Johnston nine kills apiece and Caroline Robertson 27 digs for the Bulldogs (4-2, 3-0).

Sharp powers Johnstown

Kylie Sharp racked up 24 kills in Johnstown’s victory against visiting Licking Heights (2-2, 2-2), 28-26, 25-20, 22-25, 25-21, in LCL play.

Emily Yanczura totaled 39 assists and Kate Ruffle 12 digs for the Johnnies (6-1, 3-1).

Brooklyn Hall led the Hornets with 15 kills. Layne Bodie added 12 kills, Elise McLaughlin 21 assists and Ava VonBargen 17 digs.

Newark rolls

Carlee Thompson distributed 25 assists for Newark in a victory against visiting Grove City, 25-21, 25-16, 25-17.

Bella Martinez added 12 kills, Olivia Milton three kills and six blocks, Makayla Meister six kills and Amelia Reagan 12 digs for the Wildcats (4-2).

Northridge wins

Courtney BeVier, Ruby Cermak and Madison Hoover combined for 27 aces for Northridge (4-4, 2-2) in a victory against visiting Zanesville (0-8, 0-3) in LCL play.

Valley defeats Lakewood

Licking Valley (4-3, 2-2) picked up an LCL win at Lakewood, 25-15, 21-25, 25-16, 25-21.

Maddie Banks and Emily Bone totaled 19 assists apiece for the Panthers. Banks added 12 kills, Rylee Sensabaugh 11 kills, Daizi Hardbarger six aces and 15 digs and Kendall Tucker five aces and 10 digs.

Audrey Howell led the Lancers with 15 kills. Charlee Palmer added 11 kills and 26 digs, Josie Lynch 32 assists and Danika Allen four aces for the Lancers (2-5, 0-4).

BOYS SOCCER

Watkins beats Lakewood

Ryan Townsend and Jayden Kohler recorded a goal and an assist apiece for Watkins Memorial in a 5-1 victory against visiting Lakewood (2-3, 0-1) to open LCL play.

Tyler Vincent, Chase Massie and Colten Musick also scored, and Cole May added an assist for the Warriors (2-4, 1-0). Landon Topy made three saves.

Granville blanks Heath

Charlie Wright had two goals and an assist for Granville in an 8-0 victory at Heath (1-2, 0-1) in LCL play.

Grady Kirian, Grady Johnson and Ian Bagent added a goal and an assist each, Kale Timmons, Keegan Cross and Charlie Koehler a goal each, Nolan Schneider two assists and Kelan Thompson one assist for the Blue Aces (2-1, 1-0). Jacob Lucas-Miller made one save.

Heights ties Johnstown

Sebastian Stojcev’s goal off Brian Fernandez’s assist gave Licking Heights a 1-1 tie against visiting Johnstown (2-1-1, 0-0-1) in LCL play.

Max Fink made four saves for the Hornets (0-3-2, 0-0-1).

Northridge drops LCL opener

Braden Knerr scored off a Jonah Hewitt assist for Northridge in a 3-1 loss to visiting Zanesville (2-1-1, 1-0) in LCL play.

Austin Saloum made four saves for the Vikings (4-1, 0-1).

Newark falls

Wyatt Elkins made seven saves and Daniel Hamilton five for Newark (0-4-2) in an 11-0 loss to visiting Hilliard Davidson.

Knowlton leads Newark

Maris Knowlton made seven saves for Newark (1-4-1) in a 2-0 loss at Hilliard Davidson.

GIRLS GOLF

NC edges Lakewood

Avery Thompson fired a 34 for Lakewood at Harbor Hills, but Newark Catholic picked up the victory in a dual, 164-177.

NC’s Caylee Lattimer followed with 37, Lakewood’s Lexi French 39, NC’s Sam Spearman and Leah Moberg 41 apiece and Natalie Holsky 45 and Lakewood’s Lauren Griffith 47.

Granville wins

Lydia Wigal shot 40 at Denison Golf Club for Granville in a victory against Bloom-Carroll, 171-227.

Avery Staten and Olivia Jones added 43 apiece and Ainsley Laidlaw-Smith 45 for the Blue Aces.

BOYS GOLF

Newark wins quad

Mitch Bolte’s 39 at The Links at Echo Springs led Newark to a victory against Utica, Northridge and Westerville South.

Grady Fields added 41, Ty Gilbert 42 and Ryan Wamer 43 for the Wildcats, who totaled 165.

Anthony Davis shot 39 for the Vikings, who totaled 179. Colton Palmer shot 42 and Dylan Yates for Utica, which totaled 180.

GIRLS TENNIS

Newark nipped

Lacey Layne and Andy Hupp won a third-set tiebreaker, 1-6, 6-0, 1-0, at No. 1 doubles for Newark in a 3-2 loss to visiting Lancaster in Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye Division play.

Lydia Sears and Dia Bailey won at No. 2 doubles, 6-2, 6-4, for the Wildcats (7-2, 3-2).
