Roundup: Four Newark wrestlers reach top at St. Charles

Four Newark wrestlers won titles Saturday during the NYE Invitational at St. Charles.

Timothy Humphrey at 113 pounds, Eli Justice 157, James Daugherty 165 and Kallan Baker 175 all finished on top for the Wildcats, who took fourth as a team. Cam Davis took runner-up at heavyweight.

Avidan Shaw’s victory at 120 last Thursday gave the Wildcats a 40-39 victory at Groveport in an Ohio Capital Conference-Buckeye dual. Carson Taylor, Kaleb Clark (150), Justice (157), Daugherty (165), Baker (175) and Deric McAdams also won matches.

Hill takes fourth

Breyden Hill finished 2-2 with a pin at 157 pounds Saturday to place fourth for Utica during the All-North Tournament at Dublin Jerome.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Liberty edged on road

Kaden Minier scored 24 points for Liberty Christian on Monday, but a 14-7 advantage in the fourth quarter for host Ridgedale (10-9) sent the Eagles to a 49-45 defeat.

Minier hit four 3-pointers for the Eagles (6-12), who led 20-9 after the first quarter. Caleb Reichert added 10 points and four assists and Evan Dupler 12 rebounds.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Heights nipped in 2OT

Layla Booth’s 14 points led a Licking Heights rally to force overtime, but the Hornets fell 45-42 to visiting Centerburg (16-4) in double overtime.

Karsyn Johnson added 13 points for the Hornets (8-13), who used an 18-7 edge in third quarter to overcome a 22-14 halftime deficit.

Liberty drops home game

Shelby Carr totaled 11 points and 26 rebounds for Liberty Christian in a 56-29 loss to visiting Genoa Christian (12-6).

Carolee Marcum grabbed nine rebounds for the Eagles (2-18).
