Roundup: Fast earns second for Hillsdale Academy golf at Coldwater Invitational

HILLSDALE COUNTY — Weather didn't stop a few teams on Wednesday and Thursday from hosting their scheduled games and times on the green. In addition to golf and soccer, the lone tennis team in Hillsdale County got an important team win earlier this week.

Over on the golf course, the Hillsdale Academy Colts and coach Rolla Frisinger are already one of the expected state title contending teams in Division 4 this season, but the team has only had one concluded nine holes of golf so far this spring.

The team was scheduled for a staggering three total events this week, including their mini-invitational Saturday at the Coldwater Golf Course. Before that, they got early practice on the course with a head-to-head matchup with Quincy on Wednesday and then the Coldwater Invitational on Thursday.

The Colts soundly defeated the Orioles 166 to 202 in final score. Ryker Frisinger scored a 37, just one over par, for the Colts. The senior parred every hole except for a tricky par-five on the back nine. Senior Ridley Fast scored a 41 to finish second behind his teammate. Tying for third was Lincoln Knirk and Kahle Welden with 44 each. Taking fifth was Vincent Reagle with a 45.

On Thursday, the Colts took third in at the Cardinal Invitational, scoring a 318 on team scorecard, behind Portage Central's 317 and Gull Lake with a 302. Fast would take second with a final score of 72 through 18, just one stroke behind Jackson Northwest's Cody Rowe, who took first with a 71. Fast recorded a par for the course, earning three birdies in total.

Frisinger took sixth place with a final score of 75, three over par. Frisinger had a birdie on the front nine.

Hillsdale girls tennis gets win at Bronson

Hillsdale girls tennis started off their week with a big win over Bronson. The Hornets scoring victories for the team were No. 2 singles Annzley Francis, No. 1 doubles team of Victoria Sheffer and Sabina Hernandez-Lobato, the No. 2 doubles team of Quinn Ortiz and Holly Lanius, the No. 3 doubles team of Cassidi Mapps and Samara Williams and No. 4 doubles team Olivia Kuenzer and Emily Butterbaugh.

"Abigail Nolan, Kailyn Frosch and Aleighna Zubryckyj played great matches," coach Amanda Waidely said of the other singles matches played during the dual.

The team suffered a defeat at the hands of Eaton Rapids in a makeup matchup on Thursday. The team will be back in action on April 20 at Sturgis High School for a tournament.

Hillsdale girls soccer ties Dundee to rebound after Onsted loss

The Hillsdale varsity girls soccer team had a trip out to Dundee that kicked off a staggering six-game stretch of away matchups, including five league matchups.

After losing to a tough Onsted group in the opening of league play, the Hornets hung tough with the Dundee Vikings, earning their second tie of the season. The tough defensive battle saw senior Karsyn Stebbins score for the Hornets, as well as Talicia Wortham.

The Hornets will have the rest of the week off before they face a competitive Redwolves team from Clinton, which has shut out Ida and Blissfield in back-to-back games. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Monday. The Hornets will then face Blissfield at 5:30 p.m. Thursday before closing out the week with Springport on Friday.
