Roker, Travis Athletes of the Year at Southwest Florida High School Sports Awards
Leroy Roker of Bishop Verot and Mackenzie Travis of Evangelical Christian won athlete of the year honors at the Southwest Florida High School Sports Awards, presented by Babcock Ranch, Thursday at the Suncoast Credit Union Arena.
Other boys finalists were Marcus Kelley Jr of Mariner and Madrid Tucker of Fort Myers. Other girls finalists were Marissa Burchard of LaBelle and Zoe Yzaguirre of Evangelical Christian.
Roker was an All-Area First Team selection in both basketball and football. On the court, he averaged 15 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists to help the Vikings improve to a 22-7 record. On the football field, he is a ball-hawking safety, grabbing seven interceptions and recording 54 tackles last fall. He will continue his football career at Ohio State.
Travis made history this spring, becoming the eighth girl in state history to take the triple crown in the dash events as she swept the 100, 200 and 400 dash at the Class 1A state meet. In finishing her high school career with three gold medals, Travis cemented herself as one of the best athletes to ever step foot on the track in Southwest Florida. She will continue her career at South Carolina.
