Rocky Mountain rally: Late surge lifts JU over Air Force in ASUN men's lacrosse semifinals

The Jacksonville University men's lacrosse team held off Air Force in the final 16:29 with five consecutive goals to beat the Falcons 15-10 on Friday in the ASUN tournament semifinals at the USAF Academy Falcon Stadium in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Third-seeded JU (13-4) will play No. 1-seeded Utah (11-4) on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the championship game. The winner earns a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

The Dolphins beat the Falcons (9-6) in their home stadium for the second time in 23 days. Counting a 17-12 opening-round victory over Robert Morris, JU has scored 15 or more goals in six games during its current seven-game winning streak.

Jacksonville led 8-5 at halftime but Air Force tied the game 9-9 on a goal by Turner Ashby with 3:21 left in the third quarter. But less than two minutes later, sophomore midfielder Jack Taylor scored unassisted to break the tie and give the Dolphins the lead for good.

Sophomore attack Nicky Brown then scored two of the next three goals and JU built its lead to 15-9. Senior attack Jacob Greiner completed the run on a goal with 1:10 remaining, off an assist from Taylor.

Brown and Greiner each had three goals and two assists for the Dolphins, while Sam Chase and Marshal McGuire had two goals each.
