Rocket Mortgage Classic: Max Homa makes hole-in-one but doesn't even watch it go in

Max Homa was visibly a bit exasperated on the 15th tee, flushing his short iron, watching it for a few beats, then bending down to pick up his tee.

Seconds later, he was in a far better mood.

Homa on Sunday became the third player to ace the 15h hole in the five years of the Rocket Mortgage Classic at Detroit Golf Club, joining Scott Brown (2021, second round) and Rory Sabbatini (2022, second round).

Homa, the highest ranked player in the field at No. 9, seemingly didn't even see the ball go in from 140 yards out, as he picked up his tee just after it landed. He reacted by flicking it and smiling as the crowd roared. The ball landed right over top of the front-right pin location, then spun back on the rain-soaked green a few paces into the cup.

The hole-in-one means a $10,000 donation by tournament sponsor Rocket Mortgage as part of the AREA 313 initiative to help provide digital access in Detroit.

The hole-in-one is Homa's second over his PGA Tour career, and got him to 4 under par for his round with three holes left. He birdied the par-5 17th hole to card a 5-under 67, finishing 15-under for the tournament and inside the top 25. He finished tied for 24th last year at 12-under, 14 shots behind winner Tony Finau.

Fan favorite Rickie Fowler entered the final round with a one shot lead over Adam Hadwin, and maintained the advantage through 13 holes at the time this story was last updated. Both players were 3-under on their rounds, with Fowler at 23 under par for the tournament. Two-time major champion Collin Morikawa also climbed within a stroke.
