Lanphier, Lincoln fall in nonconference play, and other boys hoops results from Saturday

Here are the boys basketball results from around Springfield for Friday and Saturday:

Saturday's results

EAST ST. LOUIS 70, LANPHIER 58: At Illinois Central College in East Peoria, five different players reached double figures to lift East St. Louis to a nonconference win over the Lions.

Taylor Powell went 9 of 15 from the floor and led the Flyers (11-6) with 19 points, six rebounds and three assists. Davis Bynum had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Arlandis Brown chalked up 12 points and eight rebounds while Montreal Stacker and Robert McCline had 11 points apiece.

Shaun Hatchett, Jr. paced Lanphier (9-9) with 13 points and nine rebounds. JaiQuan Holman had 12 points. The Flyers outscored Lanphier 41-23 in the second half.

QUINCY 48, LINCOLN 31: At Roy S. Anderson Gym, Lincoln was held to 33.3% shooting and fell behind 16-2 after one period in a nonconference loss.

Quincy (17-1) made 10 of 17 shots in the first half and went into intermission with a 28-10 lead. The Blue Devils finished shooting 52.8% (19-for-36). Camden Brown made 7 of 10 shots with two 3-pointers and scored a game-high 16 points for Quincy. Bradley Longcor III buried four 3s and added 14 points.

Trey Schilling was the only Lincoln player in double figures with 10 points. Schilling made two 3s and finished 3-for-7 from the floor as Lincoln dropped to 13-6.

JACKSONVILLE 61, ROCHESTER 51: At Rochester, Jacksonville overcame a seven-point halftime deficit and surged past the Rockets for a Central State Eight Conference win.

Rochester grabbed a 29-22 lead at the break after Henry Buecker and Canon Bruce scored 10 and nine points, respectively, in the first two quarters.

But the Crimsons outscored the Rockets 22-9 in the third period to take a 44-38 lead heading into the final period. Jacksonville (10-9 overall, 4-3 in the CS8) drilled five 3-pointers in the third, getting eight points from Isaiah Martinez, six from Masen Johnson and five from Cody Fry. The Crimsons sealed the win by knocking down 8 of 11 free throws in the fourth quarter.

Martinez finished with three 3s and a game-high 16 points. Fry scored 11 points and LaMarion Williams hit two treys and went 4-for-4 from the line for 10 points. Ryan McCombs and Johnson had two triples each and they ended with 10 and eight points, respectively, as Jacksonville concluded with 10 3s.

Buecker made three buckets from long distance to lead Rochester (8-12, 2-5) with 15 points. Canon Bruce had 12 points and Kai Bruce buried three 3-pointers for nine points in the loss.

WINCHESTER WEST CENTRAL 49, JACKSONVILLE ROUTT 34: At the Winchester Invitational Tournament, Chance Little recorded 16 points to lift the Cougars to the championship.

West Central, which led 38-27 at the end of the third quarter, also won the Waverly Holiday Tournament at the end of December. Zack Evans hit three 3-pointers and finished with 13 points. Bryson Mossman led Routt, the defending tournament champion, with 13 points.

PETERSBURG PORTA/A-C CENTRAL 54, HARDIN CALHOUN 47: At the Winchester Invitational Tournament, Griffin McClure totaled 12 points and the Bluejays won fifth place.

Jett Karrick and Drew Marr had 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the program’s 1,000th victory. Conner Longnecker led Calhoun with 12 points.

ALTON MARQUETTE 55, PANA 32: At the Rick McGraw Invitational in Litchfield, only Ethan Hicks scored double figures with 13 points in the loss for Pana.

Braden Kline engineered a game-high 22 points while Jaden Rochester had 18.

MATTOON 64, TAYLORVILLE 44: At the Rick McGraw Invitational, Andrew Wetzel totaled 17 points and Colton Smith had 15 for the Green Wave. Clark Durbin led the Tornadoes with 10 points.

LITCHFIELD 63, HILLSBORO 32: At the Rick McGraw Invitational, Victor McGill reached 1,000 career points in the win.

He drained all of his four 3s in the first half and finished with 24 points. Tate Dobrinich added 12 points. Ethan and Carson Saathoff each had eight points.  Elliot Lentz and Jace Stewart had 11 points apiece for Hillsboro.

BEARDSTOWN 88, RUSHVILLE-INDUSTRY 67: At Beardstown, Elizah Thomas and Isaac Brockschmidt combined for eight 3-pointers and 59 points to lead the Tigers.

Thomas made five 3s and amassed 37 points on 15-for-25 shooting. Brockschmidt drained three treys and scored 22 points on 8 of 13 field goals. He added six steals and four assists. Thomas had 20 points in the second half and Brockschmidt scored 15 before halftime as Beardstown improved to 14-4.

Carter Fretueg knocked down three 3s and led Rushville-Industry (4-9) with 27 points. Bennett Fretueg added 20 points in the loss.

Friday's results

ROCHESTER 53, SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN 51: At the Rochester Athletic Complex, Eli Cox scored eight points in the fourth period and the Rockets held on for a Central State Eight Conference win.

Behind Henry Buecker and Kai Bruce — who scored nine points apiece in the first half — Rochester went into halftime with a 30-20 advantage. Jamarion Bardwell and Chuck Lanier helped SHG get within 38-34 after three quarters. Bardwell rung up 10 points and Lanier added six in the third period.

Cox and Buecker both scored 14 points to lead the Rockets (9-11 overall, 3-4 in the CS8). Bruce made two 3-pointers and he and Tanner Beal added nine points each. Rochester secured the victory despite making 9 of 17 free throws.

Bardwell finished with two 3s and netted a game-high 20 points, while Lanier followed with 11 for SHG (7-9, 1-4).

DECATUR EISENHOWER 47, SPRINGFIELD HIGH 41: At Willard Duey Gym, the Senators fell behind by 10 points at the half and lost their fifth straight game.

Tishawn Clemmons helped Eisenhower take a 30-20 lead at intermission by nailing a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter and scoring 11 first-half points.

Springfield got within 42-38 after three quarters when Elijah Wade and Kevin Crews scored six points apiece in the third. But the Senators went cold in the fourth, making just one basket.

Brody Scheffler made two 3s and had a team-high 12 points for Springfield (3-11 overall, 0-6 in the CS8). Crews finished with 10 points and Wade scored nine.

Clemmons ended with three treys and totaled a game-high 17 points for Eisenhower (6-10, 2-5).     

SOUTH COUNTY 58, MOUNT OLIVE 28: At Franklin, Trevor Colwell scored his 1,000th career-point and finished with a game-high 19 as the Vipers rolled in an MSM Conference game.

Colwell buried three of his four 3-pointers in the first period and had 13 points in the quarter. South County (15-6 overall, 3-0 in the MSM) doubled up Mount Olive in the first half and led 34-17 at intermission.

Noah Lyons had 10 first-half points for South County and contributed 16 in the win. Dexter Frizzo and Matthew Bywater led Mount Olive (3-15, 0-5) with nine points apiece.

NOKOMIS 70, EDINBURG 53: At Nokomis, Reece Lohman powered Nokomis with a game-high 21 points in an MSM Conference victory.

Lohman scored 12 first-half points and finished making eight field goals while going 5-for-6 from the foul line.

Nokomis (10-9 overall, 4-0 in the MSM) went into the break with a 29-23 lead and Kennedy DeWerff got hot in the second half, scoring 13 points to finish with 17. DeWerff drained three 3-pointers and Mason Stauder helped close the game by netting seven of his nine points in the second half.

Treyton Davis hit four 3s and provided Edinburg (12-11, 0-2) with a team-high 17 points. Alex Peacock added 11 points in the loss.

CARLYLE 62, PANA 37: At Carlyle, Ethan Hicks made three 3-pointers and scored 14 points for Pana in a nonconference loss.

Hicks scored eight of Pana’s 12 points in the first half as the Panthers fell behind 24-12 at intermission. Cash Lynch had all of his nine points in the second half for Pana (3-13).

Matthew Guthrie scored a game-high 17 points for Carlyle (16-3).
