Robert Vilahamn insists Tottenham will take 'good lessons' from painful Women's FA Cup final defeat
Robert Vilahamn said reaching the Women’s FA Cup final is “not the end but just the beginning” of Tottenham’s journey, after their 4-0 defeat handed Manchester United the title.
Spurs struggled to keep the ball in a second half when United found a ruthless streak and scored three goals to ensure they thrashed first-time finalists Tottenham.
But Vilahamn said he is encouraged by his side’s first season under his tutelage and added he will be able to look back fondly on reaching a first FA Cup final once the disappointment of the heavy defeat has passed.
“It was a tough one,” the Spurs said. “We competed for the first half, but when they score for 2-0 and 3-0 we cannot compete anymore. It’s a final, we wanted to go for it.
“But, on the other hand, we are in a final, and we’ve been doing some good stuff this year. Right now I’m down. I wanted to compete and win the title today. We will learn from this tough loss. Man United were really good, and sometimes you need to give it to the opponent.”
The Swede added: “All experience like this is good lessons. We’ve experienced being at Wembley and we’ll have learned a lot. Next time we will hopefully be more ready to win.
“If you remove the feelings today and summarise this next week, you know we’re going to be quite happy with an FA Cup final and sixth place in the league. We have done a great season and we keep building. This is not the end, this is just the beginning.”
