On The Road: See how many miles the three Eddy County football teams travel in 2023

Eddy County’s three high school football teams will log more than 1,880 travel miles during the 2023 season.

Carlsbad, Loving and Artesia each have a handful of away games this year, but which team will take the crown for most miles traveled?

Here is a breakdown of the upcoming season and how far the three teams will travel each week.

The Bulldogs start the season against the Cavemen on Aug. 18 and District 5-4A action on Oct. 13 at Roswell High School. Artesia's trip to Carlsbad is a 37-mile trip while Roswell's is around 40 miles.

After the Aug. 25 home opener against Hobbs, the Bulldogs travel to Belen and Deming for two weeks.

The Sept. 1 showdown against the Eagles at Belen is a 248-mile trip from Artesia. The following week at Deming, the Bulldogs will travel 242 miles west.

Artesia’s final long trip of the season is Sept. 29 at Santa Teresa. The travel distance to the outskirts of El Paso is 205 miles.

Carlsbad’s longest trip is Sept. 2 at Albuquerque Volcano Vista. The trip from Carlsbad to New Mexico’s largest city is 278 miles.

The second longest journey for the Cavemen is Oct. 19 at Las Cruces High School. New Mexico’s second largest city is 207 miles.

The Cavemen have two shorter trips to Alamogordo (148 miles) and Clovis (181 miles).

The shortest trip is the Oct. 27 regular season and District 6-3/4A finale at Hobbs.

The longest trip for the Loving Falcons is the regular season wrap up Oct. 27 at Texico. The travel distance from Loving to Texico is 194 miles.

Loving’s second longest trip of the season is Sept. 8 at Capitan where the Falcons travel 158 miles to face the Tigers.

Loving also has two short trips, one on Sept. 22 at New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell and a second game on Oct. 6 at Jal. Roswell is 88 miles away while Jal is 62 miles out.

So, out of all of the away games Carlsbad, Loving and Artesia will play this season, the Bulldogs will travel the furthest — logging over 770 miles with five road games away from the Bulldog Bowl.

The Loving Falcons are set to travel 502 miles during the 2023 football season, while the Cavemen will travel 606 miles from Carlsbad to other parts of New Mexico.
