RJ Davis named 2024 ACC Player of the Year

North Carolina guard RJ Davis will have his jersey in the Dean Dome rafters forever.

On Monday, Davis was named the 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year a few days after the regular season wrapped up. The senior guard averaged 21.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game this season.

He did so while leading UNC to a 17-3 record in conference play. That included a sweep of rival Duke.

Davis has been the most consistent player for the Tar Heels all season long, leading them to that title including having two games in conference play of 30+ points. That included a career-high 42 against Miami.

The guard beat out Kyle Filipowski and PJ Hall for the award, although it wasn’t really close:

RJ Davis, North Carolina, 68 votes
Kyle Filipowski, Duke, 3
PJ Hall, Clemson, 2
Armando Bacot, North Carolina, 1
Quinten Post, Boston College, 1

Davis also becomes the first UNC guard to earn ACC Player of the Year since Ty Lawson in 2008-09.  He’s also the first UNC player since 2017 to win Player of the Year when Justin Jackson accomplished the feat.

The Tar Heels will next be in action on Thursday afternoon as they open up ACC Tournament play in Washington D.C. as the No. 1 seed.
