Riley Nelson, Montgomery County standout and top-40 recruit in Class of 2023, commits to Maryland women’s basketball
Riley Nelson, a standout for Montgomery County’s Clarksburg High School and a top-40 recruit in the Class of 2023, announced her commitment to the Maryland women’s basketball team Sunday night.
Nelson, a 6-foot wing, is a four-star prospect and ranked the No. 36 overall player in the country by ESPN. She’s the Terps’ fourth junior recruit, all of whom have committed over the past month.
“Oh, my God, my heart skipped a beat,” Terps coach Brenda Frese says in a video Nelson shared Sunday, apparently of Frese celebrating when Nelson told her she was committing.
Nelson’s commitment continues a strong recruiting push for Frese. Nelson joins Amiyah Reynolds and Summer Bostock as the third Maryland commit of the weekend.
Reynolds, ESPN’s No. 21 overall junior prospect, is the class’ headliner. She’ll reunite with Maryland signee and sister Mila Reynolds, ESPN’s No. 60 overall senior prospect, in College Park. Illinois wing Emily Fisher became the first recruit in the Terps’ 2023 class when she committed last month.
