Richardton-Taylor rolls over McIntosh in doubleheader sweep

Jan. 23—RICHARDTON — With a doubleheader sweep over McIntosh School, SD, Richardton-Taylor's girls jumped to an even 7-7 record on the 2023-24 season, overall, and the boys were able to improve to 3-8. The home games come amidst the Division B/Region 3-District 5 schedule heating up in Southwest North Dakota with the Raiders girls riding a 4-2 record over the last six games.

Junior guard AshLynn Christensen continued her impressive streak of high-scoring games with a 21-point output and four other athletes were in double-figures or close over the Tigers, while holding the visitors to single-digit scoring during all four quarters. The Raiders built a 38-10 lead by the halftime break on 5 points from Mariska Krank and 3-pointers from Chesney Gjermundson, Christensen and Grace Goetz in the first quarter and 12 points from Christensen in the first 16 minutes of play.

In all, RTHS poured in 12 shots from behind the arc in a fine shooting display and built on the lead with double-digit input from Krank at 14 points and 9 points each from Gjermundson, Jenna Schutt and Kitzan to pace the team through the game.

Next-up for the Raiders will be a Tuesday, Jan. 23 game versus Flasher in Division B/Region 3-District 5 action.

The Raiders boys team also was dominant in their contest, posting a commanding 39-15 lead through the first two quarters and dominating the Tigers in the second half, which included limiting the visitors to a mere 9 points in the final frame.

Marcus Cuevas paced Richardton-Taylor with a remarkable 18 points in the first half on his way to a game-high 24 points, while Kane Rivisnius came in with a double-digit 10 points. Rigo Silva came close with 9 — which included a pair of tres — Cuevas was deadly from the field with a a trio of 3s, and Braydin Hazen came off the bench to drain a pair of shots from behind the arc and 8 total on the night.

Next-up for the Raiders boys team will be a trip to Glen Ullin-Hebron for a Tuesday, Jan. 23 contest in Division B/Region 3-District 5.
