Returning District 10 swimmers/divers to watch include reigning D-10 champs, PIAA medalists
There are several talented high school swimmers and divers training to chase after school and District 10 records and PIAA medals this season.
The following is a list of some of the top D-10 swimming and diving returnees based on last year's performances:
Class 2A boys
Returning 2023 PIAA medalists
Matthew Hinman, Jr., and Colin Troutman, Jr., Cathedral Prep: They were the respective breaststroke and freestyle starters when the Ramblers won last season’s state 200 medley relay final.
Mark Cattron, Sr., Sharon: The St. Bonaventure University recruit, as a middle-distance specialist for the Tigers, finished sixth in the 200 free final at Lewisburg. Earlier, he set the district record (1:42.09) for that discipline.
Hugh Harrison, Sr., Warren: He placed fourth at states for the 200 individual medley and second for the 100 back.
Owen Carson, Jr., and Jack Raimy, So., Cathedral Prep: They started the second half of the Ramblers’ 200 free relay that finished eighth at states. Raimy also started second for their 400 free relay that received bronze medals.
Aari Fox, sr., Fairview: He seeks a third and final PIAA top-eight medal in diving.
Class 2A girls
Returning 2023 PIAA medalists
Maria Costa, Jr., and Ellie Natemeier, Jr., Cathedral Prep: They were the Ramblers’ backstroke and butterfly starters for their 200 medley relay that finished second in the state final.
Josie Dufala, Sr., Cathedral Prep: She started the second leg for the Ramblers’ second-place 200 free relay at states.
Jillian Dennis, So., Fairview: She swam the opening leg for the Tigers’ eighth-place 200 free relay at states.
Returning 2023 district champs
Mollie Massella, Jr., Slippery Rock: At 1:58.70, she was the lone finalist for the 200 free final who cracked the two-minute mark.
Logan Wilson, Sr., Sharon: Her time of 5:20.53 was the fastest for the district’s marathon race, the 500 free.
Elena Veres, Sr., Fairview: She edged teammate Katie George for first place in the small-school diving meet.
Addison Mang, Jr., Fairview: She started the leadoff leg for the Tigers’ victorious 400 free relay.
Class 3A girls
Returning 2023 PIAA qualifiers
Maura Bloss, Brielle Cheney, Julianne Gowetski and Jaidyn Jordan, Srs., Meadville: The Bulldogs return the entire quartet for their district-winning 200 medley relay. Each are also former gold medalists for individual district finals.
Havana Austin, Sr., McDowell: She seeks to repeat as the district’s best 200 individual medley and 100 back swimmer for her final season as a Trojan.
Kara Hoffman, Jr., McDowell: She started first for the Trojans’ 400 free relay that finished first at districts.
Anna Rosswog, Jr., McDowell: She can repeat as the district’s best large-school diver.
Class 3A boys
Returning 2023 PIAA qualifiers
Camden Pierce, Jr., McDowell: He’ll start the second half of his varsity career as the district’s defending champ for the 200 free.
Deacon Pierce, So., McDowell: Camden Pierce’s younger brother was a starter for the Trojans’ foursome that won last season’s district 200 free relay.
Lukas Rau, Jr., McDowell: He upset defending champ Isaiah Minor of Meadville for the district’s large-school diving title.
