RESULTS ARE IN: Now presenting Patriot Ledger's Girls Hockey Preseason Player of the Year

The nominees were announced, thousands of votes were cast and the results are now in.

In our Preseason Girls Hockey Player of the Year poll, over 107,000 votes were submitted to support the 13 candidates.

The final race came down to two players – Braintree senior goaltender Eva Surette and Canton sophomore forward Izzy Cusack. The two combined for 75,663 votes, approximately 71 percent of the total ballot.

In the end, Surette (41,396 votes) outgained Cusack (34,267 votes) to earn the honor.

An All-Scholastic goaltender, Surette compiled 15 shutouts over the past two seasons as the Wamps' starter in net and led Braintree to a 23-14-3 record over that span.

Other notable South Shore players receiving votes: Quincy/NQ forward Ciara Folan (14,060 votes), Weymouth/Rockland forward Raegan Campos (7,964 votes), West/East Bridgewater forward Kate Carabin (2,501 votes), Hingham forward Caroline Doherty (2,320 votes), Milton goaltender Lila Chamoun (1,425 votes), Whitman-Hanson/Silver Lake defenseman Caitlyn Dilley (1,340 votes) and Archbishop Williams forward Shea Nolan (1,060 votes).
