Report: Patriots interested in bringing back former 1st-round pick WR

The New England Patriots and Houston Texans are among the teams interested in wide receiver Phillip Dorsett, according to ESPN’s DJ Bien-Aime.

Dorsett has familiarity with New England. He was part of the trade that sent quarterback Jacoby Brissett to the Indianapolis Colts in September 2017.

He ended up playing three seasons with the Patriots, recording 73 catches for 881 yards and eight touchdowns. His best season came in 2019, when he caught 29 passes for 397 yards and five touchdowns.

This would be an intriguing move, given that New England needs to upgrade the wide receiver position. Dorsett to New England would not be a flashy signing, but he would be able to provide veteran depth at a position that needs playmakers.

It remains to be seen what New England will do in free agency, as teams around them have loaded up on stars. Nevertheless, the Patriots are committed to exploring all avenues in an effort to contend in the crowded AFC East next season.
