Report: LSU basketball loses assistant coach to Washington Wizards' NBA G-League team

BATON ROUGE — LSU men's basketball assistant coach Cody Toppert is leaving Baton Rouge to become the head coach of the Washington Wizards' G-League team, the Capital City Go-Go, according to ESPN.

Toppert spent one season at LSU, joining coach Matt McMahon's staff after three seasons as an assistant coach at Memphis.

Toppert has prior NBA coaching experience. He spent one season as the head coach of the Phoenix Suns' G-League team, the Northern Arizona Suns, and another season as an assistant coach for Phoenix. He also coached two seasons with the Houston Rockets as a G-League assistant coach on the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

LSU posted a 14-19 overall record and 2-16 record during conference play in McMahon's first season at the helm this past winter. But Toppert was a critical part of the Tigers' rebuild back to relevance in the SEC, as The Advertiser chronicled here.
