A group of League of Legends team owners have authored a letter to Riot Games outlining their concerns regarding the current format of the League of Legends Championship Series.

According to a report on Slingshot Esports, the report is addressed to Marc Merrill, Whalen Roselle, Jarred Kennedy, Jason Yeh and Brandon Beck and contains suggestions on how to improve the LCS. The letter reportedly brings up recent points of discussion LCS teams have engaged in with Riot Games, including the lack of job security caused by low compensation, weakened relationships between fans and teams resulting from relegation, and how the lack of compensation damages teams’ abilities to invest in players.

Currently, Riot Games will not be addressing the issue of relegation until 2018 for the North America region, when charter membership opens. For the Europe region, charter membership does not open until at least 2019.

The letter reportedly contains a response to Riot Games’ proposals. The teams expressed belief that Riot Games’ suggestions would not solve the current problems. Team owners allegedly wish to put the relegation system on hold and gain more compensation per team. This includes working with Riot Games on merchandise and digital item sales.

At present, the bottom-performing teams compete against Challenger teams for a chance to remain in the LCS. The teams that lose are then relegated to the Challenger league. Teams in the Challenger league can continue to compete to regain placement in the LCS.
